Haha, thanks Bobbsy. ^_^
Yeah, if I get $200 extra to spare, I might try out a Rode. :D I've been seeing them touted as a great, cheap(er) alternative to a Sennheiser across the Internets, and the video demos of it online sound good! It might be another year before I could afford to spend that...
Welp, I guess I can't, either. On a budget, they're the best shot I've got for the film project. Besides, they're probably better than duct-taping a dynamic mic to a painter's pole.
In any case, I'll have to get them and try them out for myself to see if they suit my needs. Thanks for the help...
Gaah! I should have read this first!
That being said, I didn't know there were import duties on microphones. I figured it only applied to the big, bulk stuff. Guess I need to brush up on U.S. law (all 200,000 pages of it!). ebay should say something more prominently about this!

Haha, thanks Dave.
To be honest, I'm not sure what I'll be plugging my mixer into, whether it'll be an amp, another mixer, or something else. In all honesty, the only thing I know about the church's audio system is that it has one. :D
By this, do you mean an input you plug cables into, or an...
Do they sound anywhere near professional grade? How do they compare to the industry standard (i.e., a Sennheiser)? Are they put away because they are no longer sufficient for what you do, or because they have issues? Haha, sorry for all the questions. :D Thanks!

Hey guys!
I figured it was time for me to graduate from the Newbies section of this forum.
Has anyone here (pro or novice) ever tried out this cheap EM-320E shotgun microphone sold on eBay? I'm looking for cheap solutions, and I need to know of any good and bad experiences before I...
Haha, thanks Steenamaroo!
Done and done! The signal wire in the cord is in perfect working order. :) The shield, however, is the problem. The resistance in the shield conductor varies between 200 ohms to 1500 ohms, up to infinity! So I'm sure there's a large break somewhere in the cable with...
Heh, well, I have noticed some cheap mics on ebay. I suppose I could buy one of these, then take off the cord and put it on my old one, but then I'd just have a different nonfunctional dynamic mic lying around. :laughings:
Anyway, I guess I'll shop around the Interwebs until I find a cord that...
Well, "not completely sure" is probably in the 1% uncertainty range. :D I'm fairly certain that the cable is the problem and that the capsule is in perfect working order.
Rentals are always an easy fix... if you have the money. As for me, I'm trying to keep this whole project as cheap as...
Heh. Thanks for clearing that up. :)
I'm not exactly sure how long the cord will need to be, but for now, I am going to put the tentative length at 100 feet, since the amp is at the front of the main hall, and our systems will be set up in the back.
As for the amp on the church's side, I'm not...
Hi all!
As some of you know, I'm attempting to get gear ready to webcast a wedding, and, for the most part, I'm a total newb when it comes to audio gear. ...I'm also broke.
Right now, I am attempting to buy or make a cord that would connect a tiny Nady MM-242 mixer to some...
Arg! Alright, I've just about given up. Every time I think I've found the break in the shield, I cut the cord at that point only to find that the break is somewhere further down!
gecko zzed might be right:
So, does anyone happen to know where I might be able to buy a shielded microphone cord...
Can't argue with that! I'm sure I've had my share of damage to that system already.
Will definitely do! Right now I'm just waiting for my order to ship and arrive. I'll let you guys know if it actually works. :D
Haha, very true! But I'm sure as the wedding day approaches, my brain will be...
Welp, I couldn't resist. The more I looked into that tiny Velleman module, the more it seemed perfect for my application, and since it was in my price range, I went ahead and ordered it! :D :D :D :D
Besides, even if I don't use it for this particular project, knowing me, I know it will come in...
Ha! That's definitely outside my range. Maybe after 5 years of saving, I might be a customer. :p
LOL. I'm actually feeling pretty good about this. I've done several tests, and there are only a few more "obstacles" to work out. Nevertheless, I'd learn far more from doing it myself then renting...
Touching the probes together yields me a value as low as 0 ohms, but it can give me momentary readings as high as 60 ohms if I slide the test leads across each other!
In terms of the master batteries, it's a new multimeter ($10 from Fry's), so I assume the batteries should be in good working...
Haha, thanks Paul and Bobbsy.
Yeah, that final link by Paul is a bit out of my price range. ^_^" But I took a look at the Velleman kit, and it does look promising. I assume, though, that it needs some kind of external system in order to control the output gain (not to mention to plug in the...
Thanks guys.
So, I've spent a good chuck of yesterday and today on this project. I've hooked my multimeter up and twisted and turned my cable like there's no tomorrow, but when measuring for resistance from one end of the cable to the other, my measurements vary continuously and wildly between...
