not satisfied with the rode nt-1a

Try using processing. gate, eq and compress until you get close to the sound you want. When you can get it with processing then start upgrading the equipment... its more rewarding.

How is the SP C1 today?

I personally didn't like the GT55 at all. I got it for $100 extra with the brick and sold it pretty much a week later. Basically any singer who sung into it hated the way they sounded. Maybe it's good for something else besides vocals though.

    Peluso 22 47 Sample, Listen!

I think that acoustic sounds really beautiful. It's got this sound that is like magical. Love it. Better than probably any acoustic clip I've heard on these forums.

How is the SP C1 today?

It's ok... you'll do just as well quality and sound wise with some of the other budget condensers recommended around here. I think $130 is a great price as I generally see them go for $150-160 used.

shure sm7 - worth the bucks?

The SM7 is a great mic... sometimes the best mic for rock vocals out of any budget. And the $315 it costs new is like nothing in the scope of things. It is great on a bunch of other sources as well. That's why people buy it... if his preamp can't handle the SM7 it's a good idea to spend the...

FS: AMS S/PDIF balanced interface, rane ms1a preamp, Audix D2 mic, Digitech RP100 pre

    - AMS S/PDIF balanced interface... made in england... converts RS422 XLR IN/OUT to S/PDIF IN/OUT. Excellent condition. Only buy this if you know how to use this... I'm not sure what the RS422 XLR input/output is but if you do this might be useful to you. It powers on and is in great condition...

shure sm7 - worth the bucks?

I don't doubt that you're right... I just don't know why the digi wouldn't be doing it for the mic. What do you think of the sound of the sm7 so far?

    Cheap chinese microphones vindicated

You're right I completely forgot about the microphone law... I've returned mics at Guitar Center before... you may be able to do it there (but I had a good relationship with the manager). If not you may just have to go for it. If you really don't like it I'm sure you could ebay it and lose no...

shure sm7 - worth the bucks?

http://abesofmaine.com/viewproduct.asp?id=rnms1b My bad, 120 db dynamic range... I'm not sure if that's the same as 120 db of gain. I don't have the B version just the A. And it can drive the SM7 with the gain no higher than 12 o clock to 3 o clock so I don't know what's up with the digi pres...

    Cheap chinese microphones vindicated

I highly recommend getting the B1 and 57 if you've got the money... that way you can at least compare two very different microphones and see which one does what you want. Additionally, if you buy it from zzounds, you can return the B1 if you don't like it. I'm a firm believer in comparisons...

shure sm7 - worth the bucks?

The MS1A or B should do great... *shameless plug* I'm selling an MS1A if you want to buy it... I'd sell it for $60 and I believe it has 66 db of gain. The MS1B has an upgraded chip and has 120 db of gain I believe but is $150 or so. Let me know if you're interested.

    Cheap chinese microphones vindicated

Sorry, I meant the budget condensers that are generally considered by the home recording person (Behringer B1, Studio Projects C1 and B1, MXL v67g, etc.)

    Cheap chinese microphones vindicated

Well I doubt those more advanced engineers are here asking about the Behringer B1. :p Let me make a correction to my opinion: everyone possesses the capability (maybe not the ability) to make a *great* sounding record with an sm57, an akg d112, two mxl 603s, a firepod, and a decent sequencer...

    Cheap chinese microphones vindicated

I've been saying that the behringer B1 is just as good as the studio projects C1. I like the B1 probably better than every large diaphragm condenser I've used and if it wasn't for the SM7 I wouldn't even know what "better" sounded like. Now I'm saving up for the soundelux U195 because I do...

    Cheap chinese microphones vindicated

The behringer B1 is much more like the studio projects C1 than the studio projects B1 (sound wise). Additionally the two B1s are not even remotely the same mic.

Just ordered that neve piece :P. I've never spent that kind of money before on something so small. I feel insane. I'll let you all know how I like it.

shure sm7 - worth the bucks?

I've had no problem using the firepod pres or a brick and they both have I think 55 db of gain.

Why is chinese a dirty word?

    The behringer B1 IS made by 797. https://homerecording.com/bbs/showpost.php?p=322038&postcount=18 https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=44592&page=1&pp=25&highlight=behringer+797+audio+alan+hyatt
