    Why do we come here?

    I started coming here around 99. Was just starting into computer recording and there was NO WHERE to get info on making computers running Windows 95 to play nice with the very few interface offerings at the time. It's a great resource.

    I think I need a patch bay

    The TTL patchbays just have more connections. I've used both. My fav in the Switchcraft TRS long frame type. You have to solder the rear connections but that's a plus as far as I'm concerned.

    Still have two 238's but I haven't used them in years. Now I track to an Alesis HD24. That gets dumped into a PC via a MOTU 828.

    Need guidance on use of phantom power on my PC interface

    Phantom power will not appear on the 1/4" inputs at all. Ribbon mics are what you should worry about although I believe Royers can take it but I won't try.

    I was in a local store that I've done business with for more than thirty years that recently sold when the owner retired. Some kid walks up to me and starts into his "string" sales pitch. I told him I had used GHS Boomers and he says "hmmmmm.....never heard of them". I won't be going back.
