    MCI JH-110 Project

Another board done. This one was a lot of work. I don't have the same connector issues with the other boards like I do in the counter.

    MCI JH-110 Project

It was dirty contacts, I should've known! I cleaned all the contacts with Deoxit thoroughly and still have a lot of problems with the counter. Unless someone has better advice as to how to clean the connectors so as not to have further problems, I'm seriously considering soldering it all...

    Mystery Machine

The mystery machine turned out to be a mixing board. I don't know what make or model, but I'm not interested anyway. My dreams of an Ampex MM1000 are crushed! :p

    MCI JH-110 Project

Took the counter apart today, cleaned the contacts and replaced the red IC sockets. Now the counter only counts odd numbers...

    MCI JH-110 Project

Show of hands, how many people thought I had given up?! :p In reality, I haven't touched the machine other than the playful turning of reels for over a month. I have been waiting for parts that take forever to ship from China. But they're all here now and assembled into the new power supply...

    MCI JH-110 Project

Yeah, I plan to go through and clean all the connectors. I'm also going to replace the red IC sockets.

    MCI JH-110 Project

Thanks! I hate sitting idly by waiting for parts. It'll be a few weeks before the PSU is done. I have no experience with MCI machines and I hear they can be quite fickle! Hopefully she will perform top notch once I'm done! I don't look forward to cleaning all those connectors!

    MCI JH-110 Project

Some people swear by RMGI and others by ATR. To be honest, I have no experience recording on modern tape. All the tape that I have ever used, which is not much anyway, has been old tape that was used and reused and reused. I suppose when the time comes around, I'll have to get some new formulas...

    MCI JH-110 Project

I ordered replacements for the 8700uf power supply filter caps. I actually ordered 4700uf caps and will use two of those to replace each 8700uf original. The old 8700uf caps were -10/+75%!!! So roughly 9400uf will not hurt anything. I will be mounting the new caps either on single sided copper...

    MCI JH-110 Project

The power supply is currently still in pieces as I am still working on replacing some parts. The cooling fan did not work very well when I got the unit. It was a 12cm 115v brushless fan and would only spin when I gave it a nudge. I tried lubing the bearings and it made no difference. Not a big...

    MCI JH-110 Project

Okay, continuing on. After I got the machine running, I knew there were a few things that would have to be done. There are 17 capacitors in the power supply, 15 of which are electrolytic, 4 of which are tantalum. I replaced all 50uf caps with new 47uf caps. Six of those were aluminium...

    MCI JH-110 Project

The day after I got the MCI, I started with the first step, cleaning. The regulators in the PSU are accessible by removing a small panel from the front of the power supply. There are four of them for the main supply voltages: -15/+15/-24/+24. These four rails have test points beside their...

    MCI JH-110 Project

Indeed I will be! That is, if it's a tape deck. If it's a mixing board, I won't feel too inclined to do anything with it for some time.

    MCI JH-110 Project

As I said above, I chose the worst possible day to go pick this machine up. An hour before I left town, it started to snow. A wet heavy snow that covered the highway in slippery slush. I do not drive myself, so I relied upon the help of a friend from work. This was not the first time I convinced...

    MCI JH-110 Project

I recently bought an MCI JH-110 from a studio in a city near me. The unit was not from that studio, just being stored there. The owner claimed that it was working, but I had no proof, even when I bought it. I didn't even take the time to fire it up at all. I just bought it loaded it into my...

    Mystery Machine

Logging! lol Touche!!! If it's a reel to reel deck, I can't complain. If it's a large turntable, that could be interesting as well. If it's a nice mixing board, well free is good. I'm just too preoccupied with finding out what it is. I can't focus on anything else at the moment. My mind...

    Mystery Machine

Judging by the, albeit, vague size he described, I can't imagine it would be. But I can't be sure until he sends me some pics. Hopefully this week.

    Mystery Machine

I hope it's a tape machine! I wouldn't mind a good good relay logic machine! I'll be sure to post about it here when I know!

    Mystery Machine

I was told by my father that an uncle of mine was offered a large piece of equipment for some work he did. Whatever it is, he doesn't want it. Between the two of them, I heard many interesting things that have gotten my mind racing trying to think of what it could be. Things like: "once owned...

WTB: Meter Bridge for Studer B67

I know it's a long shot, but I'm looking for a meter bridge for my Studer B67. I'd like to get one working and in reasonable shape, but I'll take what I can get! My B67 is a MK2. I don't think that makes any difference though. I have no idea what they're worth, but if you have one, send me a...
