    Mixing Vocals Tip - Help

Very true. Sometimes the fixing can be the fun part, as you get to use quick fix techniques that get easier the next time round. All this "Go learn your craft properly" has a ring of arrogance about it. How about working with them, right there in the studio, rather than telling them to 'go...

    Pickup height vs. pole height?

Who the fuck wrote this shit??

    Pickup height vs. pole height?

Absolutely. The question wasn't even addressed was it? In pulling the pickup away from the strings and further raising the pole pieces, you are effectively reducing the amount of flux within the coil since there is now less pole piece within the coil, so output would be reduced. The coil of...

Ear/Mix Lesson #1 - MAGNET AND STEEL - Walter Egan

Kind of limiting your target market though - like, bugger the rest who listen extensively on headphones, have arranged their listening room according to the established norm, and own a left-hand drive vehicle. Other than that, the 'mix slightly right' theory sounds plausible. Naah, I'm willing...

Do you sometimes jones to play your guitar?

I think our Spin Doc's being overly sensitive. Anyway, not an expression I'll be using in a hurry, sounds kind of awkward.

Do you sometimes jones to play your guitar?

OK, but what does 'jonesing' mean actually? Craving? And why is it racist? I really am curious, I've never heard of the expression before (and for good reason, by the sounds of it).

    Just an idea....

My only suggestion might be to assign a certain amount of posts to a certain band/genre and then move to another band/genre, otherwise, it's going to be all over the place finding something that interests a particular person. Plus, the limit might encourage people to post more readily.

Good affordable Mastering - if it exists...

Funny, I was listening to some U2 (amongst other stuff) the other month, comparing mixes, listening primarily for drum sound, but also in general, and was shocked at just how shitty U2 sounded a lot of the time, fucking aweful actually. That should get me well and truly toasted, but anyway.

All-round condenser - which of these?

I think he was referring to your "some Sennheiser mics are OK..." comment, which, you have to admit, was somewhat flawed in the context of what you were trying to say.

All-round condenser - which of these?

Rode NT1 is a good call, but I'm sure a lot of other recommendations here (of mics I've not used) are fine also. I have a Milab c96, which is 5 times more expensive than the Rode, but I've found myself going for the Rode for certain applications.

All-round condenser - which of these?

Indeed, one of those comments you have to read twice to see if it's actually serious or not.

    How critical are vocal booths?

I think you're oversimplifying things here, Robert.
