Oh, god, the Contextual Police have spoken.

Royer Live series with "significantly thicker ribbons"

You'd better get on to our David asap, before he inadvertently releases a line of crap microphones with overly thick ribbons.

    SM58's for vocals only?

I'd probably go with the one condenser as your overhead, 58 on kick and snare repectively, 58 between two toms, 58 on gtr cab. If there is one, use the bass cab's DI out. Vocals as an overdub last (with the condenser). Other suggestions may well work better though. You have phantom power, of...

    New to ADAt.. Tape question

On the contrary - the slower machine should be the Master, to avoid it starting playback before the Slave can catch up. Excellent advice otherwise.

    Question:HD24

No problem at all. What's your board btw? Even if you're recording on only 16 tracks, you can still use the remaining 8 for copying over to (for editing purposes) later. The HD24 is a really nice machine. I've had about 3 instances of glitches occuring during editing, otherwise, it's flawless.

    Giving drums PUNCH!!!

Well, he's got 'an old dynamic mic,' and that's it. I think an SPL TD at this juncture is pushing his budget and expectations a bit!

    Recommend a nice rack reverb

I'll second the TC M300. Dead easy to tweak, decent sounding.

    Guitar Re-String

When it comes to quick string changes live, locking tuners are your best friend! I had Sperzel locking tuners on my previous Strat, and they were smooth as butter.

    Guitar Re-String

Me neither. I'm buggered if I'm going to do the one-string-at-a-time thing. And I enjoy running a big fat pair of cutters through the old strings, too - facilitates easy removal. Any short term tuning problems will be the new strings stretching and settling in.

    recording your own band

Something dead easy to fly and will net you perfectly good results for your purposes would be the following, which leaves you some cash for microphones, cables, stands, etc. Adats are a bit of a pot shot, admittedly, but providing it's been looked after, they are fine: Tascam mixer...

What mixer do you have and which do you love?

Soundcraft 6000 24:16:2 - its patchbay is just amazing - I've found a way to insert a parametric EQ between the coffee maker and the TV for the most perfectly balanced, hi-definition cappucino you've ever tasted.

19" (1U) rack boxes for projects

I'm trying to source blank enclosures for rack component projects; anyone know of any manufacturers? Dimensions (approx): 19" x 1U x 3 or 4" deep.

How much snare sound should come from overheads?

Interesting, I've never heard that approach before. I'll try it some time. Thanks, something new to try.
