    A change of tempo?

Hi, I'm in the midst of writing a song which should be the finale to my album (the recording I've made so far is clocking in around 7 mins). When I initially wrote it, it was about 5 minutes long and was nice and happy, but after a bad experience I added what I want to be a big, faster, louder...

    Well... I did it!

Thanks, I will be looking into more mics as funds permit in the future if things go well!

    Well... I did it!

I bought all the stuff. Everything I'll need to start my recording days good and proper. (As opposed to a crappy comp mic!) I spent around £1700 (that's about $2,662.20) (including some instruments), here's what I got, in no particular order: - Tannoy Reveal Active moniters (£359) - M-Audio...

Advice on mics for a beginner please!

That's really too much... I'm already £500 over budget hehe. So looks like I will be sticking with Shure... 57 or 58? Say I'm going to have one overhead and one on snare as well as the kick, which is what you recommend, I could use a 58 on the snare which would then be better for vocals right...

Advice on mics for a beginner please!

Thanks, I haven't got it yet though, have been spending forever trying to decide what to get! ummm... I found the Gold Edition Condenser Microphone (MXL-V67G) for £279 there, couldn't find the v67b! That one is definately a bit out of my price range!

Advice on mics for a beginner please!

Ok thanks, will do! Mixer: Behringer MX1604A Soundcard: Audiophile 2496 Moniters: Tannoy Reveal Active Headphones: AKG K 270 Studio No luck in finding that mic in the UK unfortunately! I am new to this, so I really don't know a whole lot about microphones. Thanks again!

Advice on mics for a beginner please!

The first SM-57 was to be used for an overhead, so would it be best to use the second for snare or another overhead? Haven't been able to find the 57 or 58 in the UK for any less than £70, could you help me with that?

Advice on mics for a beginner please!

I was deciding to choose 57 or 58s for drum overheads and other uses, such as a 2 mic set up for guitar/amps. Naming all these other mics is throwin a lotta confusion at me!

Advice on mics for a beginner please!

Re: What do you have? I will have an SM-57 and a AKG D112. Where I'm getting the mics from they're both £70, so the price isn't an issue! If I were going to have a 3 mic drum setup, would it be better to have the 'extra' mic on the snare, or as another overhead? If it was to be a snare...

Advice on mics for a beginner please!

Hello, I'm decided on what I want to get for my first recording setup, but I've decided to complicate things a little further by stretching my budget for another mic. Now, I'm thinking I should get another mic for my drum kit (either as another overhead or for the snare, any suggestions?) which...

Are RCA leads and Phono Leads one and the same?

Ok... Done the reading, that's good enough for me! I'll be buying the 1/4" Jack to Phono Leads from that site, 4 of them for my soundcard > mixer connections then I'm sorted! Phew, I think that's it! Thanks guys.

Are RCA leads and Phono Leads one and the same?

I'm looking for a place online to buy leads for my setup, are RCA and Phono leads the same? I've only been able to find this http://www.emismusic.com/cables.htm so far, if my assumption is correct then I can get all my XLR and RCA leads from here. Thanks. Tom

    Tenacious D acoustic sound

I'd bet it's a lot to do with their guitars - I bet they have pretty damn expensive ones. Of course, acoustics are a much more 'revealing' instrument than electrics - quality of sound is all in the woods used and method of constructions, along with other things such as the nut and tuners, but...

I've chosen what to get, no what about cables?!

Ok, so I'll need 4x RCA > 1/4" leads then and I'm set! Along with all the other leads of course, then I just need to figure out where everything plugs in when I get it all hehe! For now, I don't have anything else to plug in, I'll probably do that and complicate matters further in the future...

I've chosen what to get, no what about cables?!

I may have just worked this out from AlChuck's post: So I just need two normal XLR cables? Same as ones used for mics? The 2496's manual says, "2x2 analog I/O accepts common unbalanced audio on RCA jacks." so I'm guessing that means it has RCA connectors! So I'll need 1/4" > RCA leads for...

I've chosen what to get, no what about cables?!

Ok cool, will I be looking for XLR to XLR leads? I've found this site http://www.emismusic.com/cables.htm which seems to have a good selection of the different types... So will I need two cables from the soundcard > mixer? What type of cables will I need for that? Aside from the headphones...
