Its the weirdest thing. In the past few days I've noticed that when I try to record with midi, I get distortion. I could be using any sound library or synth. I can be using a soft synth inside my host program or as a standalone. Audio doesn't distort. I'll check my signal path, and everything...
check out yellow tools independence FREE version
I checked this out a few years ago, but it only had a few instruments. Now the free library includes amazing drumsets, amazing guitars and bases, and some great ethnic sounds. Theres also some synths and organs and some e pianos, and they're...
I'm just getting interested in working more with synth sounds. I am looking for a program that has a nice collection of a certain "sound." I dont pretend to know any synth terminology, so I thought I'd make a 45 second mp3 of the kind of sounds I'm looking for...
I had the DMP3 for a while. It was a nice little box for the price. If you want a cheap pre that sounds good, I'd consider an FMR RNP too. A little more, but worth it. I use a DAV BG1 which is much more expensive, but I think it is AMAZING.
you simply need to isolate the problem by examining each step of the recording chain. First, you need to see if your preamp is getting a signal (if you are using a preamp) then check, if your souncard has the option, the software mixer for the card. See if it is recieving an input. Then in your...
hm I'd stay away from the cheaper AT mics. They start sounding good at around the AT4047 or AT4050, but below that, they arent the best. I wouldnt get the lower end AKG stuff either. In fact, I've never been into AKG mics at all. Once I owned an AKG 414 ($1,000 new) and my MXL v69 ($99) sounded...
Is your moble-pre usb interface assigned as the windows playback device? If it isnt, try that, and then listen to something from Windows Media Player. If there is distortion, you have just isolated the problem to the interface.
sounds like you a have a dual core CPU, which should be fine for what you are doing. Get more ram. It will help. I used to use a comp with 1 gig for recording, and it got freezy pretty easily.
...a scratch track!!!! that is the best idea Ive ever heard! That way I can lay a stress free foundation, lay everything else ontop, then go back and lay down a nice basic track while listening to the other layered tracks. That may help me a lot. Thanks!
thanks guys. Can anyone recomend me a good free drum machine or step sequencer vst?
another question. I have this piano song that just doesnt seem to work on a constant beat. The chorus is slightly faster than the verses, by about 10 bpm. Is this normal, or should I just try and make it...
Ok. I've been recording for a few years, and have played some form of music, whether it be piano, sax, guitar, etc nearly all my life. I love music. I love writting it and recording it. But there is one thing that always haunts me when I feel like recording a new song.
I hate laying down the...
You are in luck,
there are a few absurdly low-priced deals that I think everyone should know about, especially those that are just getting into the virtual instrument world:

This workstation includes libraries that if bought seperately, would be...
but arent the interfaces themselves, such as the mbox 2 mini usb 1.1? How would it change anything if I have usb 2.0 on my comp? I know than USB 2.0 is back compatable, but that doesnt change the fact that the USB 1.1 interface will be sending information slowly, correct?
I would like to get an M Powered interface or an mBox interface, but most that I am interested in run on USB 1.1. This is my first departure from PCI soundcards, and do not have any experience with USB, USB 2 or firewire when it comes to interfaces. Would an interface with USB 1.1 cause any...
1.Hey guys thanks for the help. I do not plan on using the preamps on the mbox 2 mini, I already have an excellent preamp. The XLR (input 1) includes a preamp, but I would like to not use it. I want to go mic>external preamp>ch1 mbox. Does that work?
2. So to plug a mic into the unbalanced...
I need to be able to run a mic into an unbalanced TS input. To do that I can simply solder the cold signal to the ground wire, and as long as the cable isnt long, there is no problem, correct?
I'm buying a laptop to record, and just realized my PCI soundcard (audiophile 192) will now not be able to be used because of that. I would like to use M Powered Pro Tools, and I would like to get the simplest compatible interface I can. I only need two inputs and midi. I'm thinking of getting...
and just got back yesterday. I want to buy a laptop, and protools software, but have been out of the loop for 2 years and have no idea what is going on in the technology area now. These are my needs: I only need a midi input and two ins and two outs. I have a lovely little M Audio Audiophile 192...
