M-Audio Tampa, Art DPS, Focusrite Penta

As a pre, the PENTA is clean but sterile sounding IMO. It isnt bad, it just never had and musical "pizz-zah". The compressor section is kinda quirky but fun. The fake tube knob I thought sounded good. -mike

    HD24 outputs??

Can the HD24 output from the ADAT lightpipe outs and and analog out simultaneously??? The manual SUCKS BTW but I have it basically up and running. But I am connecting it to a Panasonic/Ramsa DA-7 (for mixdown) and was going to use two ADAT cards and one ADDA card in the DA-7 so I can at least...

I'll take the one with "ugly" colored knobs off your hands for $570. ;) You dont want that much color in your rack anyway, right? -mike :D

    dbx 286a Preamp

Also .........If your looking for color , get the 166xl. If you want versitile, get an FMR Really Nice Compressor. WAY more bang for buck. Do a search on both and see what comes up. Except for bass guitar and kick, the RNC is really versitile and clean. Just got my 2nd one. -mike

    dbx 286a Preamp

Way too much money for one. I have one and use it fairly often but its not really that great and you can score one for about $100-$120 US. Hell ...... I'll sell you mine for $150 :) It has a dark sound but the high and low freq enhancer section is pretty good for compensating. De-esser...

Its here. Its here. Stupid me though .......... I ordered 3!!! ADAT lightpipe cables. NOT 6 like I actually need. Oh well for now its patchbay hell for a spell. Can't wait to get the VLA workin with the ADAT and DA7. No more mousin around. -mike

    Found a md441 .... finally.

... used that is. Its on store hold for 30 days but still ...... IF its in good condtion then I think the $220 for it will be a good deal. Checked and it does have the clip. I HATE going to the music store. Went to pick up a used RNC for a buck and ended up with another mic comming. Damn...

Finally took the plunge for HD24.

After moving and resetting up and then working all the time, I finally purchased an HD24 ....... UPS says it will be here Tuesday. I am going to be hooking it up to a Panasonic DA-7 mixing board. My (1st of a million) question is about word clock and MIDI machine control. The DA-7 has a nice...

    ART PROL VLA question...

Yup. As Farview said ..... dual mono or linked stereo but also ditto on not compressing the cab mic (for me). I find that the speaker compression (pushing the speaker a bit) really is a preferable sound than compressing the mic on the cab. My 2 cents. -mike

    M-Audio Tampa vs. Focusrite Penta

I haven't heard the Tampa but I did own the Penta. It has a good clean pre. It doesn't really have any kind of character to it. Kinda sterile sounding and although versitile because of that ..... its what I liked least about it. That said, the tube saturation (emulator) knob was really cool...

Help! I Need Help And Lots Of It!

1st things 1st ....... I'm a little confused as to what you are describing. This sounds to me like you used a single mic to record drums and THEN used a second pass to OVERDUB anither drum overhead track. !!! ???? Why on earth would you do that???? I must be misunderstanding. What...

lookng for the bass drrum beef

These guys are certainly correct in that you are better off getting the punch from the start. However, if what you got is what you got ..... Instead of just boosting the kick somewhere, clear a little space outta the bass. If you add a couple of dB at 130Hz to the kick then take 2dB out of...

Help! I Need Help And Lots Of It!

Oooppps.... Yeah ..... I forgot that ADAT is a tape. So, as Ryan said, my above statement kind of assumes the ADAT is playing back at the same speed for each track. I dont know if it works for ADAT tapes but I dont see why it wouldn't ..... fast forward and rewing the tape from end to end a...
