    The New Rig

It's sort of a growing operation at this point. We're going to be recording in all of the situations mentioned at any given time. Ultimately to become a full blown studio operation. We're being uber-picky about the board and trying to learn the equipment as we're assembling the studio. As...

    The New Rig

All new to me... in every way. First time doing anything like this. The 80-8 will be the main event with 38 filling in for back up and bouncing. The Alesis speakers are powered. Sony TC-366 hiding behind the strat.

Sony TC-366 and Sound on Sound

I understand that sound on sound means I can always record a right and left track independently but does that extend to the auxiliary mic inputs as well? Does sound on sound essentially make this a four track recorder?

Definitely built like tanks! *When "looking" at heads what should I physically be looking for, just smooth and clean?

    Thoughts on Roberts?

I've been running into alot of reel to reel tape machines out here on the West coast of the USA with the name Roberts or listed as Rheem-Roberts. Looks to be all tube stuff, which I'm very interested in. Any experience with these machines out there? Positives, negatives, models to look for...

    Next piece of gear?

Next piece of equipment has to be a Tascam 80-8 or Tascam 388... and of course EVERY stinking strat and tele I run into.

    Who makes SX guitars

I know it's late to be posting to the thread but I just received an Ash SX Furrian and am enjoying it very much. As stated earlier and elsewhere the pickups are really the only drawback that I can see and possibly not much of a drawback at all. The particular model I received played very...

Sony brand tape question, CD-IT 90 minute cassette ~Is it CrO2?

I found three blank Sony "CD-IT" High Bias 90 minute cassettes but noticed there are no indications other than the "High Bias" label as to the what type of tape they are. I've looked here and elsewhere and can't seem to find any information. I'm assuming that "High Bias" in this case means...

Tascam 424 mixing down to add more tracks - trouble with DBX

dbx issues Keep your eye out for cassette decks featuring dbx as they can be used as encoder/decoders is some cases.

    LACRIMOSA - all-analog all-acoustic folk rock

Dbx (for me) has been a revelation, to my ear it does not cut the highs like Dolby B&C. Three dimensional silence and sound, practically ZERO tape and surface noise. *Your first track's piano has an unusual sound to it, was that intentional?

noise reduction What sort of noise reduction were you using?

    For the love of dbx

I'm very impressed with the results I'm getting dbx. Almost never do I NOT hear the surface noise of tape but the dbx recordings I'm making produce an almost three dimensional sound and silence. Nothing else comes close, Dolby B seems to only cut the highs and flatten the sound to my ear.

    Guitar Tuning Pegs

If they're slipping replace them, if not check the guitar's set up from top to bottom. Tele's are known for their rock solid "staying in tune" Muddy Waters claimed that once his red tele didn't need tuning for nearly a month. All the previous mentions of nut, bridges and saddles are spot on to...
