    What's Best Roland or Alesis?

I disagree. I was in the same situation and I went with Roland. For the same price, you get double the tracks. That was enough for me to decide, but you also get better quality, optional effec processors, more editing capability, and its upgradable. ADATs are tape recorders. Tapes get...

    Roland VS1680 and optional CDR

Yes, it does provided you carry out a finalize process. There are some disadvantages to the Roland burner, such as you can't hear fade-in's ect...

    guitar question

For around that price range, you could get an Ibanez. That's really the only guitar I would reccomend, but Dragon is right, save up a little and buy something better. I'm only 19, and I bought a Gibson SG Special for $500, and it sounds and plays great. There is a huge jump in quality once...

    Experience with VS-1680?

Hi. I've had a 1680 for about 2 months now and I'm very pleased with it. Its easy to use basic operations right away, and its got enough advanced functions to keep me happy. Is there anything specific you want to know?? Also, what else are you considering?? Since I just recently purchased...

    stupid question?

Hi. I got a 1680, so I think I can help. Think of the 880 as having 2 separate mixers, the input mixer and the track mixer. Normally, the input mixer is routed to the corresponding channel (input 1 goes to track 1). The track mixer only controlls tracks that have already been recorded...

Condenser overheads getting too much snare...

How about getting one of those wind screens for your mic? If it doesn't help, you've only wasted a dollar.

    Recording Drums

If you use SM57's on all the drums with the exception of the bass drum, you'lll get a pretty decent sound. Bass drums usually require a good consdenser bass drum mic. If you have a PA, I'd send all the mics to the mixer, so all your panning, and then send them to your ADAT as aa stereo track...

    transferring tracks "long distance"

Waaaaiiiiittttttt!!!!! Don't buy a zip drive...I'll explain in a sec. For collaboration, you need to have two of the same SCSI drives. If your going to get zip drives, I would imagin that they would be the same size. The formatt that the VS machines saves in is not compatable with computers...

    Low end ****update****

Forgot to metion something. What I would do is record your drums..ect first as ddescribed above. THen when you are down to the vocals and guitar, but them through the mixer...assuming you can sing and play at the same time. Everytime you switch tapes, you will loose sound quality...so this...

    Low end ****update****

A phono jack is usually for inputting a record player or something (its a very sensitive jack). A phones jack is for headphones. Check and see what you have.

Absolute Low end recording- i need HELP!!!!

Go to radioshack, put $20 into a 4 channel mixer, and pick up some adapters too. Send everything through the mixer, into your boom box. You'll have to experiment with levels and mic positions, but if you are resourseful and creative, you can get a decent quality recording.

    cheap computer studio

Here's my suggestion. Save up another $130. Then get an Event Darla card, ($300) and Power Tracks Pro ($30) or something comprable to that such as the previous post mentioned. Just make sure you can upgrade whatever you get, cause a few yeard down the road it'll save you lots of cash..and I'm...

    Starting out....

I don't know where you are from, but I know Berklee college of music has unbeatable courses in recording. I think there is a campus in Boston and California. IF you are anywhere near there, its worth the commute. Recording is the top major at Berklee which is (in my opinion) the top school...

    Another Specific Mastering Question

Wouldn't all of that be up to you? There are times when songs intentionally have lower recording levels than the other songs...there is usually a reason for it. Some people use the same sounds for guitars, bass, and drums on all songs, in which case the eq would probably remain consistent. I...

    Drum and Guitar Recording

You'll get the best sound by jut sticking a mic up to the amp, but if you have a line out jack you can plug thata right in to your recorder. Drum recording is more complicated though. How many mics do you have and what kind are they? That will determine the best way to mic drums. For...

In search of an un-biased answer...

Use high bias for musical aapplications. The only time I would use high bias is for recording speech or something.
