Track update! Please lend me your critical ears :-)

Thanks for your comments, yeah he did write the lyrics and build the vocal melody. I really think his vocal makes the track - am well pleased with it - he truly is an awesome vocalist. I also plan to extend the outro chorus with a guitar solo of some sorts nearing the very end and possibly...

    first tune in awhile (metal)

I really love the guitar sounds, very nice. I think perhaps the vocals are a little nasal sounding though, they could be warmed up a little. Try decreasing some of the lower mid frequencies, see what that does Ben.

    Folk rock fusion

Dear All, These tracks were produced and recorded around 7 years ago on an old roland vs-840 and were mixed using a pair of DT150 headphones. Don't have the original media anymore, so they are as they stand...Was wondering anyhow for some feedback. The style is vaguely Mike Oldfield, meets...

Track update! Please lend me your critical ears :-)

Hi all, this is an update from a thread I posted about a month ago: https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=251945&highlight=listen+carefully Anyway, since then a mate from Canada I met on another forum (a guy called Dusty Hughes), put down some vocals...Here is a rough mix I just did...

First time posting in here, very limited equipment

From a production standpoint, you take far too long to come in with the vocals. The guitars are also way overbearing; try in places to be quiet, giving the listener space to breathe. The best bit is that which comes in at 4:14, it has proper melody and the guitar parts and indeed the drums are...

theBlackBay: were you slightly drunk when you wrote that last comment? Humans, proles and kik beaks ?! WTF ;-p

    mix and production comments

Really nice track... I think the vocals could benefit from being ever so slightly brighter in the verse parts...they sound a little muddy as they sit... All in all, reminds me of Paramore, very nice and exceptionally polished job (listening on headphones at work) Ben.

"Last time you Smiled" first tracking/mix attempt

Bass? Hi, is there any bass guitar, because I can't hear any? Other than that, sounds pretty cool Ben.

    Some feedback please

Just my 2 cents worth - I think the kick could benefit from more presence - perhaps a boost around 11KHz or so should bring it out a little better... At the moment its a little difficult to hear in places and the underlying rythm seems to loose itself as a result. Ben

    Guitars and tuning...please listen carefully

Thanks for the comment re strings... I've only ever used d'adario exl120s (damn that sounded like some kind of endorsement)...Gauge 9 basically...I've never done any stuff in a dropped tuning, thats gotta be even more of a nightmare, for sure...Think I might have also used super slinkys at some...

    Guitars and tuning...please listen carefully

Yeah I've not been sure about the piano either...I'd normally use a Roland GR30 guitar synth (into a godin lgxt guitar), but this stopped working at some point over the last year or so...So I've been looking for a decent software instrument for my linux setup, but there don't seem to be any...

Violent 5 - thanks; I'm really looking forward to getting the vocal tracks from dude in Canada, will certainly post the finished mix up here, when its done Cheers, Ben.

    Guitars and tuning...please listen carefully

Thanks for all your comments...I guess a track can never be 100% spot on, but it gets like a compulsive thing sometimes - "it has to be perfect" in my head all the time etc...Still I'll def heed all of your advice, and leave it alone :-) Guitarer - thanks for the Clutch comment, they totally...

Decent sound card for a linux system?

Hi, I used 64 studio (linux) on an amd64...Can anyone suggest a decent sound card sub 150 uk quid? I was thinking m-audio delta 192 - is it supported? I suppose it prob is since the 24/96 is... Cheers, Ben.

    Guitars and tuning...please listen carefully

Hahah, I know what you mean, re having a stroke...I guess I'l leave it alone, will try and sort out the synth sound though...I'l prob end up removing it all together to be honest... Cheers, Ben

    Guitars and tuning...please listen carefully

So it is definitely out of tune in places? I'd kind of rather it be spot on...perhaps I'll just wait until the vocals have gone down and then decide :-) Thanks for all your feedback (of course, if anybody else has some...) Ben.

    Guitars and tuning...please listen carefully

Hey thanks, your're absolutely right, I have been sat down while doing all the recording, but I was trying to be extra careful to not bend the strings and apply any undue pressure etc, whilst sat down...I guess the thing is though...is it tracked nicely enough, to not be re-tracked? Do you...
