Anybody wanna give me a quick listen?

Guitar tone... Its a fanastic mix to my ears. The only thing that sounds slightly off is the guitar tone. Sounds a bit harsh and digital - did you use any amp/speaker simulation because it just sounds like you ran the guitar in and then applied the distortion straight. It almost works, perhaps...

    honestly, how bad is this?

Hi Hi, I don't know what your recording process was. It sounds like a live recording, but everything is very LO-FI sounding. Thats perhaps your myspace bit only allowing me to download it in low quality, I don't know. Prob be best if you just provide a link to an mp3 in future. Other than that...

A study about smoking and hearing-loss

Well fortunately I don't smoke any more. But originally I started as a result of smoking weed, then had some bad experiences with it, kicked that but still had the regular smoking habit. Then when I was a student, I couldn't afford a pack of ciggies (they're well expensive in UK, dunno what US...

Two New(er) Songs from Lemon Test! - Recording Suggestions, etc.

Insert title here...! Just listening to Train I agree about the comments made so far about the drums - loud crash etc, although I do like the sound of the snare. The clean guitar sounds a tiny bit dry. Perhaps you could add a subtle amount of plate reverb, which would also help thicken it out...

Fantastic... Damn it, why can't I sing as good... NB. Fantastic mix to my ears, great job!

    Micing Guitar cabs?

How about... Ok, gotta be honest I use amp and cab simulators for my recordings, has been ages since I've miked up an actual cab, but here's my take on this - dunno if its any good to you... Whilst doing this, listen through headphones: 1) Turn amp volume up to maximum (Might be both gain and...

Some Help from all you Real Drummers

Well... Not quite - its just a drum machine, just like any other - samples built in to patterns, patterns built in to songs etc, but a rather sophisticated one at that. The humanization factors are applied in real time as the sequence (drum patterns etc) is played back.

Some Help from all you Real Drummers

Perhaps... If you're willing to give open source software a go, I'd strongly suggest the Hydrogen drum machine (just google it). This allows you to add in subtle human virtualization factors such as timing, velocity and random pitch. By setting these appropriately, continual changes are subtly...

New track (light rock), commercial? :-)

Ok...Cool... Thanks for the comments guys...All very much appreciated. Other people have said that I should either make the snare sound lighter to fit with the fairly soft vocals and guitars or keep the snare and make the vocal and guitars more beefy somehow... The vocals were recorded using a...

New track (light rock), commercial? :-)

Ok... It was suggested to me in another list that I should put a pavement pill up my arse if I want to go commercial with the song... Whatever that means, it sure sounds painful... So... Please disr-egard any mention of the word commercial as it has been used anywhere...in this thread...

New track (light rock), commercial? :-)

Hey guys, Was wondering if you could lend us your ears and listen to a mix of this new song. Please be as critical as possible. http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/~bhj/mp3s/inside.mp3 It was recorded in its entirety using Ardour 0.99 under GNU-Demudi Music Distribution (Linux). Cheers :-)

    Best budget studio monitors?

I'd suggest a pair of.. ...M-Audio BX5as, although saying that one of mine just recently packed up. Lovely sound though (atleast to my ears - I had been monitoring through a HiFi previously). Got mine for £120 inc. VAT from Sound Control in Birmingham

Please help, monitor speaker possibly knackered

Hi, I have a 6-week old pair of BX5a m-audio monitors. Problem is every once in a while, the right monitor (both tweeter and woofer) cuts out but is accompanied by a sort of `quiet' but present rumbling sound that you can feel by lightly touching cone. Then, for days on end, there is no sound...

please judge this song its my first one. i really wanna be hit with a crit!!!!!

Guitar... I dunno if you did this, but I think the guitar tone would be some-what better, atleast brighter, if you use new guitar strings. The tuning also seemed a little out (perhaps the intonation ?).

Fun project. (NL5 on the drums).

How about... You mentioned a bit back that you'd rather save money to get kit that you could use in a band environment. How about a Line 6 Flextone. This amp is essentially an amplified POD. It also has a recording out on it which cuts the speaker when used. I.e. you can benefit from the POD...

Fun project. (NL5 on the drums).

The clean sound The clean sound is cool, no prob DI-ing (normally). Also got this good tip for micing up amp... Might hekp with getting down some sweet tones. Place mic in front of amp (arbitrarily to begin with will do). Monitor with headphones. Turn amp right up so that you can hear amp...

Fun project. (NL5 on the drums).

No offence but... No offence dude, but the guitar sounds are absolutely awful. Not that they haven't tracked, I mean, they just don't sound natural. If you really must DI your guitar parts (I do too) try getting a POD or something of the sorts to give your tones the realism that they deserve...

Any tips on recording with monitor speakers ?

Don't do it I record my vocals with the monitors active... Probably why they sound so shite too ;-)

Looking for a bass guitarist in Birmingham (UK) area

Hey all, I sincerely apologise if this comes accross as Spam. I'm a home-recording enthusiast and guitarist and am wanting to start a new band. My influences are Creed and Alterbridge. If need, I can post up a couple of demo tracks recorded by myself at home. Anyway, got a drummer, need...

    Getting a punchier bottom end

Ok, I'l not continue with this thread after this post :-) Ok, I've decided that the vocals have indeed been tracked like a pile of shite, will re-do them or something when I get time. In fact I've just listened to the mixes today, having not listened to them for a week and they sound like a...
