    Best Prices on Beyerdynamic Mics?

I got an unexpected bonus today from my work (woo hoo!). I've been itching to buy a ribbon mic and now I can pull the trigger. I think I'm going to go with a Beyerdynamic M160. Who has the best price on these mics? Oddly enough, the best price I've found so far is from...

    Mic'ed Amp woes!

Sounds like a gain staging problem. If you can't hear the distortion when your ear is next to the amp, then the problem is coming from the recording signal chain. What Delta do you have? Does it have a button for -10/+4 operation? If so, try switching that into the other position. Also, what...

    Distortion in Earbuds

I was going to try an extreme hi-pass to see if it was low frequency build-up causing the distortion. I'm going to play with it over the weekend and see if I can figure something out. I just can't help but think this is a symptom of some other problem with my mixes and I want to identify that...

    Distortion in Earbuds

Well, I thought it might the L2, but I tried listening to a mix that had no L2 (and no overs) and same result.

    Distortion in Earbuds

Good question. I guess I never really listen to MP3s except on this player. My car stereo plays all kinds of CDs (and MP3s). I usually burn my mixes onto a CD-RW for listening in the car. But, I burn those as wav files. I'll have to try one as an MP3.

    Distortion in Earbuds

Good info SouthsideGlenn. Thanks! I didn't even think about the encoding process. I usually use Sound Forge to make my MP3s. But I don't know anything about the different encoding options.

    Distortion in Earbuds

Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines. For shits and giggles, I may try to high pass a mix at something stupid like 400HZ and see if that fixes the distortion problem.

    Distortion in Earbuds

Yes, but that wouldn't explain anything. There is clearly something different about my mixes (they cause distortion) compared to the 300+ commercial recordings on the player (that don't cause distortion). Like I said, I would blame it on the cheapo earbuds, but the cheapo earbuds are not...

    Distortion in Earbuds

Ok, so I got an MP3 player a couple months ago. I'm using the stock earbuds that came with the player-- so they are nothing special. Anyway, I've noticed that when I listen to my mixes on the MP3 player, there is lots of distortion-- mainly on the drum hits (e.g., snare). I'm real anal about...

    DIY Argosy style rack

Nice looking rack! I made my own similar (but much smaller) rack for my guitar rig. I get complements all the time on my "old school rack." Anyway, a trick I learned from my dad for getting wood filler to absorb stain better is to mix sawdust into the putty before filling the holes. The sawdust...

How can i make my guitar tracks sound like powerfull distortion with a cd quality???

Interesting how your ears change with time. I'm curious, what made you change your mind about recording with a POD? Were you still in the "honeymoon phase" at that point in time? After spending some time critically listening did you realize a POD didn't measure up to a nice mic'd amp? I haven't...

    Aux Busses and Panning

Ok cool... I'm pretty darn sure I've been using a Standard (Stereo) Bus to group my tracks and the panning is still wrong. That's why I'm confused. But I need to go home and pull up the project to make sure. Here's another related question... what's the difference between inserting a reverb...

    Aux Busses and Panning

Well... I'm not at home so I can't open up Sonar and check... but I do believe Sonar 4 only gives you options for a "Stereo Buss" or a "Mono Buss" (I'm probably wrong on that). I've been using Stereo busses. I guess that's the difference between an "Aux" buss (mono?) and a "Standard" buss...

    Aux Busses and Panning

Doh! OK, I forgot that each track has a pan fader for the buss. Silly me. Thanks for setting me straight!

    Aux Busses and Panning

Hi all, I'm using Sonar 4 and I'm a confused about using panning and the busses. I've got all the tracks in separate track folders and I recently started using a seperate dedicated buss for guitar, bass, vocals, and drums. So all drum tracks are in the Drum folder and they all go through the...

anyone know anything about sennheiser mics?

Whoops... just realized you all were talking about the e604. I have zero experience with the e604 so I will shut-up now.

anyone know anything about sennheiser mics?

I usually use the e609 and the MD421 to mic my guitar amp. They definitely sound different. The e609 seems to emphasize the mids/hi-mids more than the MD421. I would describe the MD421 as more balanced and smooth-- maybe even call it a "fuller" sound because it seems to have more low-end...

    Big amps - Why?

I agree that a big amp is pretty much required to play any type of metal. But I have to disagree with the people who said you need a big amp for rock or a little combo doesn't have enough "balls." I've got a 30-watt Budda Superdrive 2x12 combo and it freaking rocks! It's very loud and...

Marshall Mode Four (here we go)

I haven't played (or heard) a Mode Four Marshall... but for that kind of jack, I'm sure you could get a better amp. I wouldn't pay that kind of money for a non-tube amp. Actually, I read a little about the Mode Four and it sounds like a hybrid amp-- preamp tubes but no power tubes. I had one of...

to dehumidify or not to dehumidify - that is the question

Those are some good questions. I live in Oklahoma and it's humid most of the year. In the middle of winter, inside a house, with a gas heater cranked-up, it can get a little dry. But the rest of the year, we aren't in short supply of humidity. I always thought not enough humidity was more...
