Our home studio is crackling! Is it the monitor speakers?

Whoa whoa whoa. Did you go over his house and diagnose the problem? He hasn't posted a clip of the crackling sound that's occuring. How can you be so certain? It could be that your recordings are just clipping or a series of other things. Check out a few of the things the guys on the board...

    Vacuum Amp Iso Box?

Does sound happen inside a vacuum? Wouldn't there be no air to be pushed around in the box.. In a perfect vaccuum that is.

    Guitar Amps

http://www.badmuckingfastard.com/sound/slipperman.html Read this and it will cover anything I could have said plus 100 times more. No seriously, maybe read it 3 times over a week's span. Or Four. Then electric guitar recordings might make a little more sense.:) It's not your speakers because...

    Best processor for PT

I believe the processor that performed the best on the "pro tools test" was the intel i7 processors. I am running an i7 and haven't had any cpu bottlenecking on any of my tracks. While cpu use (maybe obviously) was a problem with my single core AMD 1.8 ghz processor. Good luck, Eric

Adding To The Mix - Huh?

Take a look at this thread. Read it through. There is not a formula to make a good mix, variables are always changing from song to song or even verse to chorus. You need to mix according to what is happening in the song and in the mix, no predefined solution. So pan how you want and where you...

Write a new blurb for this board

"Your second and third chance to mess up your recording." "A place to discuss things thou aren't ready to discuss." "Mixing and Mastering? They're like the same thing, right?" "Come here to fix it in the mix, tracking is supposed to be quick and painless." " Talk, EQ, panning, signal...

    dull rhythm guitar

The rhythm is supposed to be in the background. The lead is in the foreground. I think you've been doing it right this whole time.:)

    My Best Mix Yet!!

Sounds like the band you recorded likes Saosin or the Mars Volta. Vocals need to come down big time let the music do some of the talking. The screamy vocals are way too dry. You can hear the dude screaming in your bedroom. Careful with the auto-tune, it can do some funny things and you really...

424mkIII Demo Apr'09: Lennon Blues Jam: It's So Hard

Sweet song Reel. I'm down with the fuzzy guitars. As you know, revolution had one of those guitar tones without a speaker cabinet, this is what it reminds me of a little bit. They liked that on a few tracks for I suppose more abrasive guitars. Mix sounds good to me. I could probably deal with...

Another new Track from QCID! HARD LIFE.mp3

Same goes for me, I'm not exactly familiar with the genre. Decent song, I like the chorus part. The verses get pretty exhausting. The farty horns sound doesnt do it for me on this song. I feel like you could do better with a different sample for the verse riff. Again, I think you hit it pretty...

    My Best Production Til' Now!

I dont think the vocals are too loud but they sound a little dry perhaps. Maybe more delay or reverb. Tonally, the mix seems very balanced. Keep up the good work zero. I see Hey Monday is on your top friends. The bassist is actually a good friend of mine.

    Me Vs the Mirror

I think it sounds a bit dry. Drums could use more reverb along with the acoustics and vocals. The electrics sound cool to me. You have to try and make the whole mix sound like it's taking place in the same room. Everything seems to have a different room sound to it, or very little room sound...

    just purchased a Rode NT1 for $80....

Ahh I see. Well at least you have some sort of collateral if he were to not pay you back. You'll have to take it out of the box and see what you think. Im pretty sure the self noise on both nt1 and nt1a are very low. Let us know how your findings come out. Or at least let me know! Eric:)

    just purchased a Rode NT1 for $80....

I've been trying to snipe one off of ebay for a while. I wish I could of beat you for 82 bucks! I usually limit myself to about 90 bucks but theyve typically gone over before I could grab em. I love the way the mic looks and don't have any large diaphragm condensers. What do you or don't you...

    Mic suggestion for Sublime style...

You can sing in a similar vocal style but that doesn't mean that your voice will have the same tonal qualities as his or anyone else. You need to find a microphone that compliments your voice. I suggest reading the STICKIES in this forum and you'll begin to understand why. Some retailers would...

    New Song need comments

Good tracking. The instruments sound good in their own right but I dont think they blend that well. The drums sound very room reverb while the guitars are dry and the vocals sound is pretty dry with a cathedral type reverb. Try to use reverbs that will sound like the same sonic space. Then add...
