    Mixing rap vocals

Vocals typically have reverb delay and compression on them. If your sample has a fair amount of reverb on it, you would want to put some reverb on your vocals so that it blends. You can add delay to add texture to it and a feeling of more "space", similar to what reverb would do. Compression...

Need some Tascam 424 sound clips

If Reel Person hadn't already posted I would have directed you to his page! He's loaded with oxide! Anyways, since I'm here I'd like to say ... you can hear the recordings A Reel Person made but just be aware, if you sound good, the tascam 424 will show that. It's a solid unit with a lot of...

With what gear did you make your 1st recording?

My first recording was guitar into a yak bak. Then a little later, a telemarketer microphone into my realtek computer sound card. My first REAL recording (with some sort of sonic intention) was into an mxl 990 into an m-audio audio buddy pre then into a m-audio soundphile 2496.

Who's your favorite engineer? Producer? Mastering Engineer?

Steve Albini is my favorite. I want to be like him one day! Yes, even the asshole part. Everything in his mixes to me seem to have this awesome space between instruments. You can hear everything just so clearly. Even when it's the ugliest sounding tones, he makes them sound awesome in the mix.

Looking to build a home studio.

I suggest you learn as much as you can and befriend somebody who would be able to help guide you a bit before you spend that much money. That's a big investment to make especially if you're uninformed. On the link that I posted, he goes through different styles of recording set ups. Ranked by...

    Anyone hitting AES this year?

Yeah I plan on attending. I might be going with my school. That's if I'm not going to Bruce Springsteen in New Jersey on the same week. I'll have to get that all panned out.

You could try this site if homerecording.com and the bbs isn't efficient for you. http://tweakheadz.com/guide.htm Aside from that, there is plenty of great information just a search away. Good luck, Eric

Hard Rock: White Rose - "Angel"

I agree with everything Joey said up there. Nice voice but not sounding ballsy enough for the tune. The instrument's sound like it can pull together as a nice tune once it's all finished up. But I'd like to hear it with the real drums put in. That's when you'll have a mix with a lot more...

    New Piano song

Pretty nice Boz. Pretty nice writing. I like it, at parts maybe a little predictable or possibly repetitive. Your playing sounds pretty good but I don't like the piano tone really. Not very rich sounding for me. Keep up the nice playing :)

Asleep At A Wake Album - Critique Welcome

Thanks Steve! Yeah, 23 tracks to be exact. But as you can tell, some probably had more time put into them than others. But all for fair reason. Hope you've enjoyed it! :) Thanks again, Eric

    Assistant Engineer Tips

Not that I have that much wisdom to spread but in my limited time interning ... I have just tried to make it clear to my superior that I'm not trying to step on his toes. I want him to have my help where he wants it when he needs it. Not when I insist on getting in his way. That has worked for...

Asleep At A Wake Album - Critique Welcome

Thanks Jeff! Yeah, might get pretty wacky backwards. No intentional subliminals though. But you never know, we may be devil worshipers after all. :)
