If you have windows media player you can stream the audio. As for the recording, this does not sound like the original recordings, there is a vocoder or auto-tune on one of the vocals! The recordings sound fine, so the problem is with your EQ. Work on your EQ using much less EQ. G

Yes they will make your room sound even worse. :( I would suggest a matched pair that you can set to cardioid if you want to get over the sound of your room along with dampening. G

What about free VSTs? voxengo, fish fillets are free, there are many out there and a lot of them pretty good. G

simply put, yes there should be nothing wrong with adding compression at tracking stage and Mixing stage. All you need to do is listen carefully to your recordings to see if they actually need any compression. G

Yeah EQ is EQ, but the way that the plug-in handles the Q makes for different sounding EQs. EQs with less knobs give different sound to more precise EQ like REQ, and the ease of use is also a great factor in choosing an EQ to suit you. Voxengo have some good EQs for free if I can remember right. G

Can you post a sample of the raw vocal recording please? Then we can see if the vocal was recorded properly first, before we start thinking about Mixing them. G

Parallel compression can work well, but I like to group the drums and put a compressor on the group some times. This can give you a very solid drum sound in the dynamic department. 5ms attack, 150ms release, ratio depending on how dynamic you want your drums, and threshold to taste. G
