    Sitting vocal delays

I tend to reach for a stereo delay more often than not for chorus sections of vocals. I like it over reverb because I feel that I have more control and it's a bit simpler in terms of taken space. When listening to music, especially modern metal and rock (August Burns Red, As I Lay Dying, the...

Cant get things LOUD enough, but meters say they're on zero DB. What gives?

Just a hunch... If it sounds the same volume as a commercially mastered track on your computer, whatever software you're playing it through might have a "auto level match my songs" setting checked someplace. I'm pretty sure itunes has one, and I know for a fact that ipods do because I used to...

    Really cool foley sounds

You should all check out this video series. I got some good inspiration. I wanna try recording some random stuff and see what sounds I can get. Diego Stocco: Sound Magician Part I "Intro" - YouTube

    Palm mute butchery

It sorta sounds like a timing issue to me. I think you're talking about hard rock/metal style guitar, and if those chugs aren't pretty much exactly on time with each other, it can get messy. Especially if they're in fast bursts like triplets, etc.

Computers: Sometimes It's Best to Leave Well Enough Alone

Jimmy, quoting this post because it was most relevant... I'm with you. All my software/gear works perfectly with Vista so I'm not about to jump 2 OS versions all at once. Shit will hit the fan in no time flat, I'm sure! However, I will have to deal with the 64 bit things in some cases, but as...

Computers: Sometimes It's Best to Leave Well Enough Alone

I have to buy a new laptop soon because mine died recently and I'm really dreading the possibility of having to get Win8. I was on vista for 5 years before now, and I'm comfy with it. I wish I could stay there but I'll be forced to at least Win7. Searching online has yielded results for new...

    Spot delays for vocals

There are two typical ways I can think of. The first is to cut that one word and put it on it's own track with the delay on it as an insert. The positive to this is that there is no need to automate anything. The negatives are that you will add extra processing because you'd probably want the...

    Creating the illusion of distance

I've been doing that quite a bit and it usually works. It also allows the lead to have the shine to it without it competing too much. It's simple but it does work

    New Guy needs help :)

Hey and welcome to HR! Others will have a lot more input, I'm sure, but I'll ask the obvious question first. How does the amp sound in our room without a mic? Does it sound awesome and how you want it to right from the beginning? You mic is a solid choice, but it only hears what you give it...

Condenser mics for vocals on a budget

I picked up a used Sterling Audio ST51 that I've loved on several voices, acoustic guitar, and as a drum room mic. Does anyone else have any experience with it? For $100 new, it doesn't sound half bad to me. :: Sterling Audio ::

reducing the level of a mix without moving the master output fader?

I used to do that in Cubase so I didn't have to open the Mixer window to see my "Master fader". I worked almost exclusively in the edit window and that was easier for me. All master processing happened on that bus (I called it SUBMIX). Like what Jonesey says, just another method to all this...

    Country mix, First time

I had no part in recording, producing, or anything for this track. I'm just mixing for practice. Track found @ The 'Mixing Secrets' Free Multitrack Download Library (Cambridge Music Technology) This is the first country track I've attempted so far. I wanted to mix something other than rock for...

DECENTER - Falling Away (mix v1)

In the verses there's a scratching sound on a lot of chord changes that's pretty distracting to me. Intentional? Cool tune though for sure!

    Criticism Please! (Rock track)

Listening on headphones... I like where this is going. I'm trying to ignore the vocals a little though. I agree that the kick is a bit too loud, but on the other hand, I like the space around the snare. The balances between guitars and bass are nice. Keep with it!

I'm Alive [Nu Metal/Hard Rock] Please critique?

As far as the mix goes, I think the kick is too quiet and the snare is too loud. The synth that's in the chorus is a bit shrill. After a minute it becomes a little much. For me there's just a lot of high end I like where this is going though, not a bad song.

Finally entering the world of DAW recording.

Ah shiz, my bad! I didn't mean to be spouting misinformation nonesense around the interwebs :spank: I wasn't aware that PT had issues in that regard, but then again, I'm not a PT user.. This might be the driver for it, but this page has no WIN 7 driver. Idk if it will help the OP or not...
