    CD Burner Problem

Since your unit is only two years old, you might try calling Dell. I have had very good results with their technical support in the past.

    cable help

You might also talk to Taylor Johnson at the Sound Room. Taylor makes cables up using RamTech cable. It's very thin, and very good. A real space-saver, for sure. You can put several of them in a small bag.

    Snake Box Placement

If your room is small, mounting it on the wall may be a good idea... as floor space is at a premium, and your cables should be able to reach the box from all over the room. On the other hand, if you have a larger room, leaving the box on the floor will allow it to be moved when necessary... and...

    RNC or Behringer Tube compressor

I love my RNC. For transparent compression, in its price range, I don't think you can do better.

    PCs and Operating Systems

It is pretty sweet, actually... but speed and capacity come with a hefty price tag. The tower alone (before software) ran $5300. (Ouch... hurts me to say it)

    PCs and Operating Systems

It probably truly depends upon what you are running on the system. I have twin Xeons running at 2.2Gig each, and the pros that built my machine wouldn't even consider XPHome. It is primarily a video workstation... with full audio capabilities. BTW, I've crashed quite a few times with video...

    What do YOU think?

I got the first part of it before the network connection failed. Sounded pretty good... at least the part I heard.

    Peavey!!???!!!

The only things I remember Peavey making that were worth a shit were their basses, and the CS800 power amp. I hate the nasal tone of most of their other gear. But, after all, that's only an opinion.:D

    Mackie HR824's...

I bought mine about six months ago from Mars Music during their going out of business sale... $800 out the door... Sounds like $699 is pretty good... not as good as $599, but good, nonetheless.

    Somewhat off-topic: Vegas Video

Thanks for the heads up, Alan. I'll hang on to my dollars for a little while longer.:)

Do you have 4.0 right now? If so, what kind of "teething pains" are you referring to?

    Somewhat off-topic: Vegas Video

I just checked their website... the upgrade from Vegas 3.0 to 4.0 is only $199. I forgot to check the 4.0+DVD version (I already have DVD authoring software... sorry) It has some pretty neat new features to it... including 5.1 surround sound capabilities and 24bit 96kHz sampling. One feature...

    Spend extra for matched mk-012's?

If you have the cash to blow... go to the sound room. You'll get the best of what's available with no apologies. If you're strapped for cash... take-a-you-chances and roll the dice. Keep in mind that you'll keep a good set of mics forever.:D

    Oktava Condensers

I have the 012's matched pair with the three capsules... very good value, IMO. I also picked up the LOMO LDC heads which fit on the 012 preamp... and am very pleased with those, as well. Recently, I did a live two-mic recording at a jazz club here in Atlanta and the results were very good...

How to get the real sound

When we did Bobby Rock's 'Metalmorphosis' instructional video, I asked Jack Joseph Puig what he thought was most important in getting the best sound on tape. In spite of Bobby being one of the best drummers in the world... playing a $25,000 kit.... He said it was these three little MGM mics...

    Guitars and weather

My old O-15 Martin spent years 20 through 35 on the windward side of Oahu in Hawaii. No humidity control... and it rained nearly every day in the valley we lived. No discernable damage to said git-fiddle.

    Is outboard gear worth it??

RNC compressor. Under $200. Sounds like a $2000 comp.
