    Post Your Analog Recordings Here...

Daniel Sexton - Stealin' Here's one we've just done in a room with ol' Dan, his resonator & 12 string, the Nagra IV 1/4" mono recorder and a single Rode K2. We were after that real old time Alan Lomax kind of thing. Just a pair of heaphones for me and nothing for Dan. It was done at 7 1/2 ips...

Is the Boss 900CD a 24 bit recorder

As far as I know the BR's do their AD at 24 bit then dither it down to 16 bit for storage. For effects that are used as you record and stored wet, they'll also be done at 24 bit but again, the wet result will be dithered down and recorded at 16 bit on the disk. For effects added during mixdown...

    Vintage EV Microphones

With EV's that doesn't matter... age shall never weary them. Here's my collection... RE200 Cardiod Condenser - still in production. Great on hats, good on overheads and very surprising on vocals. RE10 Supercardiod dynamic. Still in production as the RE16. Nice vocals dynamic. RE11...

    Yammi AW1600, pro tools, mBox2

You can export individual.wav track files out of your AW1600 to a PC using USB Sluggo. Read the manual. It's all in there. Give it a go. :)

    Yammi AW1600, pro tools, mBox2

Why don't you just record your drums down to their individual mike tracks on the AW1600 then USB those individual .wav track files out to your computer and pick them up in ProTools? Then you can mix them in ProTools with whatever else you are recording via your Mbox. It seems unnecessary to mix...

    mic on a budget

Unless you can ante up to $200 for this one Shure SM58 with USB then the Samson is it. I reckon the Shure'd be a whole lot better for what you want especially if you want to hand hold it and rap. The Samson's likely going to suffer from vocal popping so you might need a pop screen Pop Screen. I...

    Rode k2 or ntk????

I just went through the same conundrum and the K2 won out over the NTK in my machinations. It'll be my only tube mike so its variable polar pattern capabilities swung it. It should arrive on Friday all being well. :)

Electro-Voice RE-20 or BeyerDynamic M 88 TG, primarily for kick recording?

Well now, this M88 has made quite a difference even to my crappy kit in it's crappy room in the attic. Suddenly it's not hard any more. Imagine that, all kick drums mikes are not created equal. Who'd've thought such a thing. D'oh :o Good recommendation work you lot and I'm glad I listened to it. :)

    Classic Snare

Man, I'm no expert on recording drums yet and I've got a shit Chinese set in a poor position in a compromised room but I have found I'm getting a lot closer to the snare sound I want (tight, dry, crack) with an electret condenser pointing horizontally across the center of face of the snare in...

You ever just feel like throwing in the towel?

Yadda yadda yadda. My reel to reel machines get used because they are fun and sound good. Maintenance is challenging if you DIY and takes a bit of learning and some vital tools. This place has been invaluable in that respect. My 4 track cassette Portastudio gets used because it's a personal...

Behringer and the hits keep coming...

I bought a Berri B5 SDC from a music shop off eBay in November 'cause I wanted to have a partner to one that I already had that always worked and sounded just fine. I chose this particular retailer because it was down at the lowest price end and offered free postage. When it arrived I wasn't...

    phantom power on 2488

I find the safest procedure to use with mine is to make sure that phantom power if off whilst connecting the mikes, condenser or dynamic, and make sure the master fader is all the way down, then engage the phantom power. When disconnecting the mikes I go in reverse, master fader down, phantom...

Electro-Voice RE-20 or BeyerDynamic M 88 TG, primarily for kick recording?

The M88 has won out over the RE20 in the final decision. I'll pick it up on Thursday. Jolly good. :)

Omni or cardiod, two mikes or three in this situation?

Yep, that's where I've got to also. I'll start with an X/Y main pair and go from there I think. X/Y, ORTF then MS. I think I might skip the spaced pair given that it's an ensemble. Thanks for all that folks. :)
