well, what do you know... (tweaking NT)

dangit! Well I got a few more blue screens last night. Once while recording (I was dumping some analog stuff so no big problem, rewind, reboot, hit play again.) and once while mixing. The problem is certaintly much better than before, but I'm not completly free of hassles. Some more testing...

well, what do you know... (tweaking NT)

I've had NT for a few months now, I'd been able to mix with vegas in it, but when ever I tried to record, i'd get the blue screen of death after about 90 seconds. I tweaked the virtual memory, set it real high, set it real low.... same thing basically. I was screwing around tonite and I got it...

    Alesis Al11(condenser)

... probably will be my next mic purchase. When ever I've auditioned it, it seems to love my voice. I'm glad to hear someone mention it.

    Tascam vs. Event usb

seems like the e-zbus is more flexable. It's an intresting piece of gear. I want one! But really I think it'd just sit and collect dust if I had it. Love to have a control surface to work with. Look Ma! real faders! but... I use Vegas.. yeah it'd collect dust. As far as sound I dunno maybe I'd...

    Kick Drum Mic Questions?

Don't bother. Wait and get something better. Although there are a lot of other chocies in that price range. Just try them if you can and see what you like. The Nt-1 might like you. It dosent like me, but it likes others I've recorded well enough. :) for the kick, I don't know anything about the...

The Ultimate Mic Pre Shootout (or how to embarass yourself in front of your peers)

With you 100% The Axis! :D But I'll spill the beans about my reasoning, so that I can be wholly embarrased. (better than fading into obscurity :)) I feel pretty certain about the first one being the realistic. Something familiar about it like maybe it's the sound of those radio shack...

    phantom power and compressors

I'll go into the line in's with dynamics on toms on my mackie and get enough signal. So yeah I see what you mean. Get a phantom power unit and try it. See if you can borrow one. What you get will depends largely on the input stage of your compressor, does your compressor have...

How do I get a powerful guitar sound?

Turn down the gain. Turn those mids back up, adjust volume... stick a 57 right on it (< 1") in the center- no matter what anyone else says :D But seriously, if the tone is THAT bad it probably has more to do with the guitar, the amp, your playing, than mic position... just my 2 cents. -jhe

A "Recording For Dummies" question on preamps

The ART TUBE MP is really great as a DI for acoustic guitar, and it's a swell mic pre-amp too! I love it's sound for somethings. For drums I like the open sound of my Mackie pre's (think of the Mackie 1202 as a four pack of mic pre's, if you need a buch of pre's for not much money, they hit the...

    5 sm57s, 1 c3000, what next?

Get a good kick drum mic. (I have the Shure Beta 52 and the Audio Technica ATM25) I like both, depending on the sound of the kick and what I'm going for, mostly the B-52 these days. The ATM will be more upfront in any mix, but the lower mids of the b-52 are gooooood :) THe B-52 will also do well...

Incridible prices on dbx silvers at Mars!

oops! it's the 566 (dual channel compressor) and the 576 (single channel compressor/ mic pre) not the 586 (which is a dual channel pre). The deals on the 5x6's I saw in the Mars June flyer in the middle section. The 386 and 376, I stumbled upon at the Richmond VA Mars. (F^&$in' $399) They...

Incridible prices on dbx silvers at Mars!

586 dual pre/ 576 channel $498!! 386 dual pre/ 376 channel $399!! almost walked out with a 376, but I should, like, pay the rent or something. Seems Mars will not be carrying them anymore and is blowing them out. I'm not sure if you can get the deal online, you may have to go to one and...
