I had an order with 8th street that never got to me. eventually thay gave up in getting the drop shipment and refunded my money. No biggie though. I've used MF many times, never any problems. For software and hardware stuff the sellection at Audiomidi.com is awsome.
828 or 828MkII?
I may be mistaken, but I think only the original 828 is limited to only the TI chipset.
As far as brands go, the two I have are Belkin and SIIG. Both have worked as advertised for years. I do really like my SIIG firewire/USB/ethernet card though.

I used this card in combination with an ADAT for a few months before upgrading. Figure it could use a good home where it would get some use!

What is the signal chain between the soundcard and your monitors? are you going into the mixer from the soundcard or just into a power amp? If you need more volume in you monitors just turn the knob :P
Sounds like you just want to get the mixes louder though. which is it?
I usually compress everything
... or at least the plug in will be in the chain. Compression to me sounds more musical in small increments, i.e. two chained right after another. Compression can be used too add color, not just for taming dynamics. Carefull attention to the attack and...
back in my 4 tracking days I used the TDK SM and SA. They are the best tape probably. But then My four track just basically became a 2 track recorder for rehersals and stuff, just record it, then throw it in the car tape deck. Sounds Wierd, but I swear the Maxells sounded way better on normal...
depends on the mixer. look for something that has inserts on each channel, or better yet tape outs on each channel. That way you can send the signal from each chanel "strip" to an individual channel on the soundcard and not be limited by the number of busses or aux sends on the board. That...
some things to try with "what you got"
try a different pick (unless finger picking obviously)
try strumming at a different position. I very often change this up in recording. Sometimes strumming and picking near the bridge or up on the neck (picking / strumming at the 12th fret can be really...
Might work. Seems like you are saying you want to record that extra track onto the Boss, and then dump it in afterwards. May be some sync issues with the track lining up, some editing could do you right.
As far as sample rate, it may not matter if your just trying to import it in to the...
yeah but can wiffle balls handle phantom power?
The mic sounds like blue plastic.
or yellow plastic sometimes.
I recorded a vocal with it last week. I was doing a scratch track, so I just threw it up to experiment. It was defintly different. I threw a little distortion on it via SF...
It's unlike any other mic. You'll have to try it to see if you like it.
I like it sometimes on guitar cabs, sometimes it's absolutly unuseable- depends on the player. If i want a guitar tone to sit in the mix a certain way, i think.. BALL!
I'd love to use it to get a cool snare sound, but...
I have one "visiting" (AW16g) in the studio this weekend. The owner wants some tracks to play with on his new machine, so I'm trying to get it to talk with my MOTU 828. So far all i get are these wierd crackling noises. when trying to use the optical in/out (SPDIF) of the machines. I'm asuming...
In that case, none, or any (:D) of the above. Finding a good placement outside the kick, tuning the kick, and the room, will get you what you're after.
Of the ones listed, I preferr the B52. I hven't heard the 603 though. But I do own and use the B52 and the ATM25. I will agree the ATM25...
Big kits are hell to mic, and a hell of a lot of fun to mic. :D You drummer sounds a lot like my old drummer... very demanding, insanely stubborn, but very talented... :D
In similar circumstances i used 7 mics on the kit. The toms were a set of roto toms, 3 rack toms, 2 floor toms, and a "gong"...
thanks for listening piltdownman.
I see what you are saying about the build-up but without a real conclusion. I think we will probably end up making the song longer. It's pretty short for us, the other tunes are much much more complex. This is our "simple to the point" song, but hmm what is the...
new anxieties new questions need feedback! :D
I've been away from the clinic for a long time. I've been pretty busy. I've got a track about 75% completed and would like to hear some opinions. One thing I'm woundering is what genre this music could be in. It's a dumb useless question, i know...
