    Kick mic direction/advice, please?

The 1402 is a 4-buss mixer. Left and Right Main and Left and Right Aux. (Pan things hard left and hard right to achieve this.) You could also record out of the inserts on each mic channel. You could get 10 seperate channels out of that thing. Also you could use the aux sends in a pinch, or...

How do I set up an effects loop?

No this is wrong. You are confusing an effect send with an insert. Effect sends route the signal out of the board into a processor and then you return that signal into the board through effect returns or back into another channel on the board. Effect returns come in after the channel strips and...

    Anyone know um57?

Lesson 2: don't start a paragraph with the phrase "Lesson 1:" (especially with a colon!) and end your post without a "Lesson 2:" lol. When you get up on a soapbox you need to grandstand for at least 3 paragraphs for maximum effect. Sorry just found that amusing. ;)

The best Studio Projects B1 microphone for under $100 poll?

I don't think that one's under a hundred dollars unfortunatly. It's not released yet either, I think maybe June. I think Alan said estimated street price will be $1,011,001.01

    Analog to Adat...

Look at the Mackie Onyx 800R if he's not ruling out a box with pre's and converters. The Tango25 seems a good choice. Alesis makes a similar box arounf $400 I think. If he's really on a tight budget the behringer would be useable. Another option would be a different interface. Something with 8...

Behringer C-2 Pair or NADY CM90's

The stereo bar that comes with the c-2's is worth about as much as the mics themselves. lol. I bought a pair to use for extra tom mics. I did a bunch of tests comparing them to a 57 on different sized toms. The drummer I'm recording has a rediculous sized 13 piece kit! I got these with the 6"...

Lexicon MX200 working in windows 2000

I just got a MX200 over the weekend. I knew that XP was required for the mix software/ pluginability part, but wasen't really concerned. Having to turn real dials dosen't bother me. SO after getting it setup and playing around with it I figured I'd try and see what happens if I load the drivers...

Spirit from Soundcraft or Mackie ONYX

I like the pre's and eq on the older soundcraft board I have (spirit sx) better than the Mackie VLZ I used to have. I have a Mackie 800R on the way, so I will be able to compare the new onxy pre's to the soundcraft. Should be intresting!

    balanced 1/4 to unbalanced 1/4

The problem dosen't seem to be in the balanced / unbalanced connection. The DMP is probably operating at +4 and the isis at -10. See if there are any hardware settings in the isis software, or maybe a switch on the DMP3. If not you'll have to get a bump box.

Studio Worthly, but cheap floor tom mic

AT pro 25 is nice on floor toms. and cheap. Not a good all around mic like the ATM25, but does amazinly well on floor toms. I like a 57 better for rack toms, and it's not so hot on kick (at least compared to the ATM25! - amazing on kicks there) I can't vouch for it on bass - never tried it. I...

    Headphone amp...Presonus? Behringer? Other?

yep exactly right. switch it to 2-channel mode and the pan knob becomes the mix. you could also use an aux send. whatever works and is flexable in your setup. I use the same Behringer 4 channel amp you are looking into. It's fine, some of the headphone outs on the front are quirky, have to hold...

I've been researching for a week and I just can't decide on a preamp

I disagee. (not picking on you here chris, your post was easy to grab and quote :D ) Unless someone works at (or has access to) a big time studio with loads of stuff to play with, it's better to buy cheap now than to wait months months and months and buy later. This, assuming that people's...

    Headphone amp...Presonus? Behringer? Other?

and another thing, since I just realized it. using the Alt 3/4 out makes the most sense for a headphone amp cause there is no volume control, and assures the same settings basically everytime. The control on the amp is enough. So, in continuing our examples: With the HP amp coming from the 3/4...

    Headphone amp...Presonus? Behringer? Other?

You shouldn't need a mute switch. There are a few different ways to do this on a 1402. I used to have a 1402 but now use a soundcraft SX board, the one thing I miss are all the routing options on the master section of the 1402. If you will not ever need to have the phones and monitors running...

    Headphone amp...Presonus? Behringer? Other?

I used to do it this way when I had a 1402 VLZ. Run the headphone amp out from the 3/4 alt outputs. Then you can switch from monitors to headphones, by simply selecting mains or 3/4 from the channel that your outs from your (soundcard?) are fed into. Now switching to the phones mutes the...

    feather soft acoustic guitar

First I would experiment with strumming the strings with different picks, using something like a matchpad or like a paper football (like you used to pluck around the lunch table in middle school) or something else cool and handy, like maybe the flesh of your THUMB! Get the sound down, then try...

    $150 dollars for monitors.

I was going to suggest going up $50 for Event 20/20 passives if you already had a decent home reciever or other power amp. I got mine eons ago for $200 just a little over your range. Got a replacement from Guitar center in a pinch after one finally blew for $110. Imagine that, one speaker blew...

    Nice/Cheapish Patchbay

I got a Nutrik patchbay from Guitar center just like the rebranded or not Horizon one linked above. It was out of box and the only thing in stock so i took it home. Total crap. I'd have to futz around with the plugs to get them to pass a signal, pulling some partially out. I tried al kinds of...

So gimme some awesome tips on recording brass and wind

I've only recorded a few sax players. Within my limited mic selection I found a CAD M179 to do well on tenor and alto sax. Nice detail without hyped highs. Continuously variable pattern, so you get to play with that a bit. A wide cardioid worked the best for me. It important that a sax player...

    Pro Tools 002 alternatives?

The MOTU 828 MKII is excelent. You get 8 channels of A/D/A on 1/4 inch ins. and 2 mic inputs on the front. Right out of the box you get 10 channels input! The pres don't steal from the other ins. I use an old ADAT for 8 more channels via the ADAT optical in. 18 in's at the moment. You can go up...
