If you don't feel confident in printing the compression to tape, and still think it's too much work to bounce all tracks afterwards, the solution can be only one. Get more channels of compression.
Don't know what they use in fancy studios, but I usually record bass with a sansamp bass di going into the console. The parallell out of the sansamp goes to a bass cab with an audiotechnica ATM25 in front of it. Both signals are recorded on separate tracks with as little compression as I can get...
The computer in my studio is for writing invoices and e-mails.
I don't think the quality goes down with a PC-ready preamp, but I do believe that the price goes up. For features I don't need.
First of all, there's no difference between a dynamic and a large diaphragm mic.... there are plenty of mics which are both at the same time.
Condensers doesn't give proximity effects like described above either, it's the pickup pattern that does. Cardiod, hypercardiod and figure-of-eight give...
Noooo. Not another nerd preamp.
What the hell is wrong with a goodsounding preamp, with transformatorbalanced inputs, tubes on high voltage, impendance matching and some other shit. Make it 2U with quality VU's and I would buy it without thinkg twice.

I totally agree that a skilled engineer can get a good sound out of any of the two. Actually, it's quite easy. They're both excellent to record on.
I hear you. But I think you misunderstood me a little.
What I meant was that analog has a better sound cause digital doesnt even have a sound. (in a way)
I didn't say that analog is better than digital, cause there are more to it than the sound alone.
Example:
You talk about bouncing some...
Lol, I'm not new just because my username is. And even if I were, I'd still be free to speak my mind.
But I'll drop this discussion anyway... didn't mean to step on anyones toes. But I do wonder what the hell is going on.
Why don't you enlighten me ? A search for Behringer would prolly bring up 1000+ posts.
Also, I guess I got you two mixed up, since you have the same avatar. For that I am sorry. :o
But I still can't see the use of endless nonsense threads.
