The inverted thingy isn't between type I and II, it's between the blackface and all other models. The ADAT XT 16bit is type I and doesn't have this problem.
I got a HD24 + Soundtracs Topaz, and using a AMD 2.6Ghz running wavelab for editing. I can't say good enough words about the setup. It never fails to produce fast and excellent results.
Get the Summit Audio, it is a really really great sounding unit. With real tube. Which you can blend in 0-100%. Also impendance matching and sweepable highpass filter 20-200Hz.
And, great sound. Did I say that ?
Ok, I got some money in my pocket, and it's burning.
I'm always on the lookout for new mics, but I'm a little unsure which one should be next.

If you're doing hiphop/rnb, take a look at the Shure SM7 microphone. You'll need a good pre for it though, cause it's kinda low output.
Echo MIA is a great card. Haven't had any experience with the Focusrite unit.
I got some behringer units in my racks, and they work fine. With that said, it's nothing that I would consider using on a lead vocal or something.
But they're good as extra units to use on some channels that sits deeper in the mix, when all other units are busy and you need that extra...
I got a vocal booth where the walls are 100% covered with "bed foam", and a live room where tha walls are covered maybe 40% with acoustic panels, diffusors and basstraps.
The live room obviously sounds better, and a lot more controlled in the lowmid and bass. The vocal booth works fine for...
