You would be able to play everything through your usb soundcard. As I type this, I am listening to my mp3's using winamp and my Mobile pre USB hooked up to my stereo. When I want to, i just plug my guitar in, open n-track and I'm ready to go.

n-track has pretty much what you are looking for. You can download a 40 day (?) full trial version at www.n-track.com. As far as effects you can download plugins to use in n-track.

Many USB devices are indeed usb 1.1 and not usb 2.0 In the next few years we will see a huge increase in usb 2.0 (which has similar bandwidth to firewire) and firewire devices. It will be intersting to see what develops. -sae

it's not that it's old, it's just that usb 1.1 can support 2 in/out (at least at 16/48) If you wanted to use the US-122 at 24/96, I am not sure you could do 2 in/out. You would have to check out the tascam website.

I believe that a usb connection to the internet will do just fine. It should be able to handle the traffic no problem.

I have never used ntrack for its midi capabilities, but I have heard that you don't buy ntrack for midi. Maybe that has changed in the last while, but that's what I seem to remember.
