Oh! One other trick if you want that string type wierd sound...
Break your leg! Or someone elses!! Either way, you want the surgical steel. It's got a great tone. Just rub it on the strings for the coolest sound... I promise that if you use it on any track you'll be wanting to use it on EVERY...
George Dennis units are rather lovely. I saw the LIMITER/COMPRESSER go on ebay this week for about £40. Not sure if it's been discontinued as it's not on his website anymore. But if you see one get it... it's great!
The 24/96 has the same updated converters that the 1010 uses. You can always stick a couple of those in your system - you can run multiple Delta cards together with no problems (according to maudio). I have a24/96 and it sounds great but I need a couple more ins, so I'm picking up another. Under...
Ok, am I going to distroy my lovely Focusrite Penta?!
I've become quite practised at DI'ing my electric guitar and running it through Amplitube. The reason that I don't mic up my amp is because my room is tiny and I can't get it to sound good (also has a rattley grill over the front that I'm...
In truth I only changed it around last night. But the mix that I did sounds much clearer now. Far less lower mid. The desk that I use is pretty large and an open type (as in, not a normal computer desk) so the bedding is really near one corner and absorbs bass from all angles.
The Bookcase on...
Crackin! That's pretty much how things are panning out over here. Except that because the room is only slightly (2') longer in one direction. I have set it up to best effect by rotating your design 90 degrees so that the speakers are along the longest wall. This may sound wrong, but due to a...
Thanks for that. I now have the mirror points to eiher side covered but want a little more foam to go behind the computer monitor.
My room is tiny so I'm trying to get hold of some bass absorbers as it is.
One bonus of my room which I did not realise is that I have a hollow wall behind my...
Nice idea. I made my main panels on freestanding legs so that I can move them from my control room and set them up as a vocal booth in the next room. A few extra panels here and there would be great - and I really can't be arsed with another trip to Homebase yet! Pins it is then!!! :D
I never even thought of using pins to attach panels.... brilliant for us in rented accomodation!!!
Richard - I need some more panels, where are you in the world???
Once you get to grips with all issues (room acoustics, mic placement etc) a decent pre amp can be as important (some say more so) than a decent mic.
For example. A good mic through a cheap pre amp will sound cheap - a decent mic through a good preamp will sound pretty good. Don't get me wrong...
If your just looking for cheap pre's just get a small mixer - even the behringer Euro desks are FAR better than nothing!!! You'll be looking at about £35 and you'll have 2 pre's and a few more routing options.
I uded one for quite a while and although the difference between them and the pro...
Hi,
Just been offered one of these for £20.
Question is, is the sound quality too far off CD?? I understand about compression and dither, and that modern MD sound pretty darn good. But do these older models compare favourably or will is just sound naff??!
How many ins/outs do you need?? Check out thi smonths Sound on sound mag for a review of a tasty 10in/10out for your budget.
... Audigy = Wank! Only worth having to beat and disgard!!
...Ewww, that wasn't supposed to be so rude.
ok. I know this is too small for a good sound but I'm thinking of changing it around to get in 'better'.
Box room - 9'x7'x8'.
Monitors - Behringer Truth active. On sturdy stands with spikes.
I currently have the desk and speakers set up along the longest wall with acoustic foam behind me. This...
A bad vocalist can actually work in some scenarios... think Pogues... OK, that's enough, don't keep them in mind too long! :p
Although some engineers can even make a monkey like Britney sound ok (long sessions me thinks!) it's far from an ideal.
The moment you hear yourself on a recording...
I used a 1680 when I was at uni and got ok results. Shifting upto a PC system opened up a whole new world though.
I've been hoping to nab a second hand one for live recording too. I've had some pretty good results in that field with them.. If you don't want it - I WILL!!! ;)
