I've done that alot with sequenced synthetic drum tracks and had great results. I've not tried the full mix though, just individual tracks that needed 'something'.
Give it a go, it's great (at times) ;)
I always nudge the faders in the mixing stage before I add my second compression (I use a little on the way in) to make sure every word is audible.
It works great for me. ;)
I'm using the Focusrite Penta with my Rode NT1000 mic. I've been looking at getting a second condenser mic and have...
Not a bad idea. I hadn't thought of using both dynamic mics on the guitar. They would have to be thrown together while recording as I'm still making do with 2ins 2outs.
F**k it! He wanted a low-fi sound, that's what he's gonna get!!!
I've done some work with this guy before and he is...
Although there's not much 'zing' to the Beyer, I was thinking of putting that (through the crappy pre's) around the guitar nut and using the Rode aimed up towards the mouth (being careful about pops!) and then merge them together. May give a little bit of flexibility.
Any issue with Phase to...
I'm working on a new project in December with a very talented singer/songwriter. He's very Neil Young inspired (which suits me as I love the early stuff).
Because of this style he wants to sing and play guitar at the same time and then over dub loads of instruments to get the most organic...
I did a similar project a few years ago with a young guy who had never recorded before. We did two takes of the whole track (to cut and paste them into one great take) and when I accidently pushed both faders up at once he was abosolutely perfectly in time with himself in everyway... accents...
FOUND THE PROBLEM!
I re-opened the mix file last night as saw the obvious problem. I had another guitar track that wasn't working in the mix that should have been muted and wasn't. When I opened this wavefile - Off centre!
Simply deleted section and remixed - Perfect!
Thanks guys. I'll go...
I don't blame you being fussy at all. You must'v eworked hard on it and you don't want to settle now.
Personally, I burn everything at -2db to be sure and this works fine for me.
The main reason I'm chipping in is because it's only good practise to burn CD's slow if the CD's themselves are...
No-one?..
Well, I bought the buggar anyway and it sounds SWEEET. It also plays like a dream. I now have blisters on my fingers after a few days of learning finger style... Man that's hard but the tone is soo much nicer! ;)
*** I just wish this damn thing wasn't 'garden fence green'!! :D
I mix in SX2 and edit complete mix in Soundforge 7.
I spent ages last night mixing my new tune (Early Pearl Jam ish). I found that when I imported it into Soundforge to trim the start finish (Old habit that I haven't shaken off yet) the wave form seemed 'off centre'. It's in stereo but in each...
Not sure i fthis is what you're looking for but it can give a sense of space...
Copy the audio track so that you have two running simultaniously. Nudge one forwards between 30 and 50 miliseconds. Pan hard left and hard right... add Reverb to taste.
:p
It's worked wonders when I had to fix...
Thanks massive.
I'll continue to use Har-bal until I get used to my speakers, but I shall restart trying out Single band compression. I'll spend some time learning how to best use them on a mix to keep things as delicate as possible.
It's something that would be benificial in the long run...
Anyone ever used a Tanglewood Warrior 2 bass?
A friend is selling one and I'm working out a price to offer him. It's only for writting lines and dropping them onto recording (real bass player will over dub when he can). It's to get down ideas and rough mixes.
