Still only one entry received...with all the producers in this forum I thought more folks would want to be involved in this. Come one peoples, lets get behind this and win bragging rights!
NYmorningstar-- here is the link to the webpage. Let me know.
Orange Gangster--I agree, R&B means something totally different today than what it meant in the past. The way I see it, the modern definition of R&B has its roots in the blues and in motown, but its largely unrelated, sonically...
yeah, I know which chords you are talking about. Trust me, thats the way they are supposed to be--it actually works pretty well with the vocal. Its meant to be dissonant. I think the comment about the similarity of the snare and kick was a good one. I hadn't noticed that. Is anyone besides...
hey
I do all my recording in Cool Edit, but when it comes to effects and mixing, Cood Edit is crap. I have been using Sonic Foundry's Acid Pro to do all my mixes after I record in Cool Edit. Its nice because all its effects can be tweaked in REAL TIME. It will set you back about $150, but its...
deadline
Well, initially I thought one week would be good...but so far I only have one entry--and its waiting to be approved by mp3.com (and we know how speedy THEY are). Sooo, I'm thinking the dead-line may be extended another week. Say, April 9. But even then its flexible depending on if...
I appreciate your honesty. I agree its not the most edgy, cutting edge track ever, but maybe you could offer a more specific critique. ie. the drums, the piano, the bass, the pad, the mix. Keep in mind I cant change the chords.
I just uploaded this. Its a track for a r&b vocal group with three male vocalists. This track is going to be heard by a LOT of people so I wanted to run it by you guys to see if I should make any changes.

Okay, I hope no one minds me taking the initiative here, but I'm just going to put this out here and hope everyone is cool with it.
In the last battle of the beats thread, I suggested these rules:
1. We'll set up a thread where everyone who wants to compete can show their interest.

Lets get the ball rolling, here.
Okay, at the risk of sounding bossy, here is my suggestion for the Battle of the Beats:
1. We'll set up a thread where everyone who wants to compete can show their interest.
2. Next, someone will have to volunteer to run this thing. I will do it...
Thanks for the link, Gec. I remember the thread, and was looking for it, but the search function was down on the day I posted my topic.
MISTERQCUE, Thanks for all the info. The situation is a little trickier than straight royalties. Turns out this lady is a manager for unsigned groups...
True words....BUT: Is mailing it to yourself actually useful in protecting a copyright, though? Is taxi any better than the LOC? What about ASCAP?
Anymore advice about royalties?
I ran into a rep for a northwest label yesterday who says she pays $500 to $1000 for a beat. Should I go for this, or would I be stupid to let my best beats go for a few hundred dollars? If I wanted to keep the copyright or negotiate a royalty based payment, how would I do it?
Beathoven:
The program should have come with a tutorial song that will walk you step by step through the process. If you are still having trouble, go to www.buzzmachines.com and there is a whole community of people using the program with a bunch of tutorials. If you have any specific...

I use a very powerful program called Buzz.

I'm not too excited about fruity loops...
This approach usually works for me.
1. start with a simple sine wave generator.
2. Use a bass processor that will do something like a. double the octave, b. invert the wave-form, or c. add distortion. I know there's a free VST plugin made by MDA that does a nice job.
3. Add a small touch...
