    Cable management

Anybody have any pictures (or links to pictures) with good examples? (once again, referring more to the layout than the actual products) I only have an Imac, a few mic's, a pre, and a pair of monitors for now - but will be growing and I'd like to start off on the right foot...

    Cable management

Saw this thread - https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=104936&page=1&pp=25&highlight=cable+management - but the eBay links were (understandably) expired. I'm looking for 1) recommendations for cable management and 2) some pictures of well-executed cable management. I'm particularly...

Prop up / tilt back an amp

Will the wedge (link below) get it off the ground enough for recording or should I really get it up (12" +)? http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/General/Accessories/Stands?sku=425900 I'm only using it for recording, so I was planning on putting it on the wedge and having it sit underneath a...

Preamps less than or around $500

I just purchased a Summit Audio 2BA-221. I haven't been able to put really put it to test yet - only had it a few days - but so far so good. It's a great value, right in your price range, and you're overpaying for brand. http://www.summitaudio.com/2ba-221-mic-line-module.htm

    Placement with an MD421...

Ya - definitely a head slapper. It's actually GREAT news because although I'm no expert, I have a firebox and a summit audio 2BA-221 - and I really wasn't getting the sound I was looking for - to say the LEAST. So, ya - I'm pumped to get back home and give 'er a whirl!

Just curious - how does the weber attenuator compare to the marshall powerbrake? http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PB100/

    Placement with an MD421...

So - I just got my MD421 a week ago and hadn't been happy with the sound... I was just browsing the royer website and realize maybe I'm doing something pretty stupid.......... I was holding the microphone upright (so it was pointing towards the ceiling) but according to the picture below, I...

Prop up / tilt back an amp

This is great. I'll have to figure out how much space I've got - but I think i'll go with the http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/General/Accessories/Stands?sku=425900 (Ampwedge) or the ultimate amp stand (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/General/Accessories/Stands?sku=450568) I...

Prop up / tilt back an amp

I've seen people using some type of peg to tilt back their amp. My goal is to prop up my amp about 6" off the floor and tilt it back about 30 degrees (Fender Hot Rod Deluxe). I realize this screams DIY, but I'm limited on materials & tools... Anyone know of a product that would do the trick?

Which one of the attenuators did you say you have? http://www.tedweber.com/atten.htm

    Condenser recommendation

They do have good pre's - but this is a step up (although still modest compared to many). Also, I'll be able to get the extra gain needed for the MD421 (because it's a dynamic mic) with the extra pre.

Micing hot rod deluxe & isolation box?

Daav - Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear a similar story. Sounds like one hell of a project - and something that I won't be able to get in. a 4' x 4' isolation box wouldn't leave enough room for my bed :) I'm going to hunt for your thread and check out other options. Appreciate the advice.

Micing hot rod deluxe & isolation box?

Thanks! Have you used one before? I'll definitely look into this. However - I should have been mentioned in my first thread that one of the reasons I was thinking about an isolation box is that I'm having troubles recording with my Sennheiser MD421 at low levels. If I put the amp in an iso...

Micing hot rod deluxe & isolation box?

I live in an NYC apartment building and really can't afford to get evicted. I'm finding that to get the good tone & good signal level out of my hot rod deluxe, it's just too loud - especially later at night. I'm trying to explore my options - and I've heard I could use an isolation box. I've...

    Condenser recommendation

Thanks for all the advice. I think the first step is a preamp - then maybe another mic or two. Called a trusted friend and went with the Summit Audio 2BA-221!
