Does your valvestate have one or two speakers? If two I would mic both, play with positions. If not I would just record mono, double tracking IMHO sounds bad, and it severely screws with some surround stereos (phasing and so on) and I personally just don't like the way it sounds. Thats my two...

I know a guy that put an eraser under the 'fingers' on the top of the guitar. It seemed to work, but I haven't seen him in while... just a low budget suggestion.

I tape my condensor to the wall with clear 3m tape. Or I tape a piece of string to the mic and hang it from a stack of T.V. trays.

True, but most multitracks have some kind of eq built into them, I just want decent cheap mic pre's!

Im thinking of buying an Alesis Studio 12R mixer to put in front of an HD recorder (probably an Akai DPS12i or a roland V-Studio) and some live stuff. Is anyone using this mixer? How is it?

im confused (again).... Your Akai has preamps on 1/4" jacks? does that mean that if I had a mic that didn't need phantom power I could make a cable with an XLR end and a 1/4" end and it would work? The inputs on your Akai aren't balanced? I realize that some HD recorders have XLR inputs...

I know man, it seems as though the companies that make these so-called 'all in one' boxes really aren't thinking about what the people that are gonna use them need. I sure as hell do not want to go buy mic preamps for all the channels just so that i can get phantom power and a decent sounding...

Its really making me mad that no HD recorder out there for less that $2000 has XLR inputs, would these not make sense seeing how most people use a microphone at one point in their recording experience? Can anyone recomend an HD multitracker for around $1200 amercian list that has XLR inputs...

clean pod.... I would have to agree, the POD seems to be much more geared towards high gain sounds, which suits my tastes. It can give good clean sounds, but you have to read the manual and work to find the good clean sounds. every control on the pod has two uses, you just have to read into it...

Sony did invent the mini-disc, as well as cd's and the s/pdif format (with phillips), beta, etc. I buy sony products almost exclusively for this reason.

Spirit SX, 12 mic pre's, inserts on all mono channels, direct outs on the first 8, one sub group. I think its under $700 american. Its a very cool mixer for the money.

hmmmm... not sure The POD specific foot controllers are the FB4 and the Floor Board. The manual says any MIDI controller will work, so if its a midi controller you might as well try it. Why don't you try e-mailing the company from their website? I think their customer service is decent.

The POD is pretty convincing as a DI box, I wish I had a soundfile for ya, but I don't. If you got POD you find a good clean sound and put your GT-2 infront of that as well. I love my pod, its good for live as well, except that the floor controller is a massive effing ripoff.
