My experience is the same as what I think most would say. Play one rhythm guitar track, pan hard right, play the same identical thing again, pan hard left. That's about all. I've tried doing it four times, (two hard right, two hard left... one hard right, one hard left, one 50% left and one...
You nailed it. As I refine my abilities in the "art, science & magic" of this craft, I find myself saying, "this isn't exactly how I heard it coming out of the monitors", just not nearly as often as I used to and figure setting up the system is likely going to help. Of course I'll take...
To properly set up my studio, finally, here's a plan I thought might work and am interested in input from the experienced masses here.
I was thinking of running test tones from a CD through my system, set up a condensor mic placed in the "listening position", (equally distant from the monitors...

Here's the latest creation of mine for review & comment. I really have appreciated the comments and advice on mine, and others' mixes. It makes what I do more fun.
Cheers...
Wow, that is a great tune. Since I come here more for help than to offer it, I may not be the best for advice but for what it's worth, the drums to me are great. Really fit in well from where I hear 'em. The only negative I could hear is that the guitar solo at the end could stand out a bit...
Well, I've taken to heart several comments the fine folks here have been gracious to offer on my last two submissions, and applied them to this song. Here's my latest original effort. Additional comments welcome; and thank you all...

Well, you got me to something I've never EVER done before; listen to Katy Perry. Now I know why. But seriously, beyond that, you sound very close to the original. Just because the material SUCKS doesn't mean the job you did does. Nice work for what it is.
There, you can come back out of the...
I'm not 100% sure but the background vocals sound a bit out of tune in spots? Snare sounds good but maybe just a tiny bit too loud. Those are minor issues really; it sounds pretty good overall.
I just got an e-mail from Steinberg about a special they're having through October 31st. Upgrade to the full version of Cubase 6 from any of the following, LE 4/5, AI 4/5, SX/SL 1/2/3, Sequel 2, Cubase Essential 4/5 and Elements 6, for only $299.99. (excluding VAT?). Check out their website...
There are some timing issues here & there. And the guitars do sound much too far back in the mix and I really don't hear much bass at all. Kick & snare dominate. Then again, sometimes that's a choice that some people make. I've heard that one of Heathen's records was done with no bass at...
Sounds like a good tune. The kick is pretty strong though, I'd probably bring it down. Maybe some vocal "treatment"? At first the pauses came across like there was something missing, like it needed a slide up the bass guitar neck to transition but after listening to it a few times through, I...
Here's another original creation of mine. Admittedly it's a rather simple and straight forward tune but often times, simple is good.
I appreciate the advice offered on my previous submission and added a bit more "crack" to the snare and feel this comes across much better but none-the-less...
Well, for being 16 and your first attempt, I understand. Track 2 "sounds" a bit better that track 1 which sounds like it was recorded in an airplane hanger. Way too far away but then, I don't know the original or what you are after so that may be what you want. Just my first impression. Any...
Synth's are definitely not my thing but as a piece of work for what it is, I like it. I always like vocals that sound more like speaking than screaming. That part really comes across well.
Below is an image of the left rhythm channel. The right is the same. Typical play twice and pan one left and one right. I've got the plug-ins laid out in the picture in order of the signal path.
The Ren Compressor is there to use in the side chain from the kick & snare.
The Ren Desser is...
Hahahahaha. I have to admit that is a pretty good description.
Kinda drops me off at 1:40 just a bit. Maybe bring in some low bass from there to 1:58 when the instruments come back in? Seems like something I'd try in a spot like that. Forgive me but I've never heard the original song so...
Thanks a lot for the feedback. On my seemingly never ending to-do list, the snare is already on it as you mentioned; I noticed the same thing. As for the bass, I did that on purpose but I may reconsider based on your observation. We'll see.
I also checked out your stuff too from your home...
