They have got to sound good to begin with but you can also do some dirtying in the post. Have the engineer run the screams back through a tube screamer or some type of distortion. It can be very mild but sometimes it makes a huge difference. Also don't underestimate the power of doubling. A lot...
I think I also recommended it in one thread. Jarzombek has some WILD musical ideas. It is a little more progressive and not nearly as heavy but you should definitely check out his work with Spastic Ink as well.
My band Canvas Solaris did some shows with Behold the Arctopus last year. Their...
What metal are we talking about? All the serious metal players I know are rocking some form of a Boogie, Marshall, 5150, etc.....I can probably count on one hand all of the metal shows that I have been to that involved a non tube amp on stage.....?
I say this with the best intentions possible. I think we have all been in your situation at some point.
Based off the questions you are asking and how all over the place they are........I would recommend not spending any more money until you have done some more reading/research. It sounds...
The thing is that it SHOULD sound good before you do anything to it. I am not saying that some post tweaks don't help things out but you have to start with a good source sound to begin with. I find direct sounds much harder to work with but maybe that is just me.
Last I heard Btbam was going...
Your question is pretty broad so you probably won't receive many responses. Maybe try posting what you have done so far so people can suggest some things to work on. You didn't mention an actual guitar amp. That is probably where I would start......The source has to rock for the recorded...
Looks like the Framus is officially sold. Had some time to do some more research....I think I am going to buy the Engl Blackmore model instead of the Fireball.
Does anyone have any experience with Engl amps in general?
There are good points for both sides of this debate but I am willing to bet that cost and mobility is the major cause of the rise of the smaller amps. Everybody wants something they can stick in their pocket and go (look at cell phones, ipods, computers). They are getting smaller and smaller and...
I work for an electrical contractor and we were going through one of our storage sheds today. My boss has a habit of keeping anything and everything from old installations. I came across a box with some old intercom/broadcast gear. This Shure mic was buried in with some other misc gear. I am...
Call me crazy but I go in and separate the regions manually. A lot of the stuff I record is pretty busy drum wise so I don't trust my beat detective skills to do the work for that portion.
Well I know it is bad form but I am only going off what I have "seen". I've never seen any photos of the sm7 in use without any of the "windscreens" on it.
I bought an original Sm7 this week. I didn't read the auction very carefully and I realize now that they only had the larger of the two Sm7 windscreens. I found where I can buy the smaller one but my question is....Is there any reason that I can't use it without the windscreen on the mic? I...
ahh so the six inches out from the speaker is because of the proximity effect on the ribbons.
I guess what I was trying to ask in my other post.....when someone comes in with a high gain amp like the 5150 do you reach for a ribbon before something like a Sm 57 or an Sm 7 ?
I don't do any mixing outside of the box anymore. I am slowly selling my misc outboard gear. I am down to three outboard comps (2 Dbx 163x and one Presonus Blue Max). I would like to sell these and replace with just one unit.
So if you only had one unit to use for taming/limiting peaks on the...
Sonixx- is a ribbon something you use pretty regularly for metal guitar tones? I play/record a lot of heavier metal tones but have never tried a ribbon. I liked the sounds you got with all of these but the AEA's are out of my budget right now. The FAT Head looks like a pretty good option.
It has been quite some time since I used CEP but you should be able to right click the "waveform" and LOCK it into place. I can't remember the exact wording but it should come up when you right click it.
If that doesn't help, try posting in the CEP/Adobe forum.
One thing that is easy to try that sometimes works......Try plugging your amp/interface etc...all into the same power strip or outlets. Basically you are trying to get all your gear on the same A/C circuit. Occasionally if you plug into separate circuits, you can introduce noise.
