My cover of "Grace" by U2 - looking for some feedback...

This is good. The guitar is a bit bright for my taste, but it sounds good. The vocals tend to jump a bit on the louder parts. You have a nice voice. The C1 does a nice job. Sung with emotion... Not sure I like the original very much, but good job!

    Don't wake up

Thanks Ray. Hmmm. I'm not quite hearing the congas being to loud or present in the mix. They sound kind of pushed back to me. As far as garageband goes, would the sound not be the same as other software applications at the same sample settings, being digital and all? So far, garageband has...

Hold On [John]: Tascam DP02CF Demo 3

Hey Dave, Another great one! Like the experimentation with the mix and panning the guitars. The sound is really clean and up-front. Noticeably better than the pocket-studio. Good job with the vocals:D

    Don't wake up

Thanks ido. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the garage band reverb sounded. I have the "normalize" setting selected in the audio preferences of garage band on export. This may attribute to it's "hotness", though I've heard hotter. Also, the Rode NT3 is a pretty "present" microphone I've...

    Don't wake up

Added somemore instruments! Added some congas and some bass. First time I've played and recorded me some congas. Any opinions on the song or mix would be great. I know it get's a little out of sync in the end, so I'll go back and fix that. Thanks for checking it out...

    The Best Ever Tascam 4-Track

I think there are a few guys floating around here who use portastudios as front ends to their DAWs, if that's what you mean. Personally, I mix down my cassette recordings to my computer and bump the levels up a little.

    The Best Ever Tascam 4-Track

I used to have the 246 (comparable to the 244) and have the 424 mkII. The 424 mkII is, imho, a fine machine that is a little more feature laden than the 244. Soundwise, the 246 and 424 mkII are very close in fidelity, so much so that I can't hear a difference. They both sound AWESOME! The 424...

    Posting again

Great attitude. I know where you are coming from. It's just me when it comes to this hobby. And I'm trying to get better with my singing, all you can do is keep practicing. Concerning the mix, I've read the thread and I think, based on this last mix, your addressing some of the things people...

    Half an album

Love your recording space! These songs sound nice. The mixes sound good for the most part, though on song 5, during the spoken word part, the vocal seems to get buried all of a sudden. I love the diverse group of instruments you have goin. Now, only half an album left to go.

    Rode NT3 . A different class

So I recorded a song in garageband using this microphone exclusively. If anyone cares to check it out: http://www.garageband.com/song?|pe1|S8LTM0LdsaSjaVm0ZWE

    Don't wake up

Lately I've been doing alot of recording on a cassette portastudio, but I have a mac and went out and got an m-audio solo so I could check out Garageband. It's a great little program. So I put a dbx 163x in front of the M-audio solo, and plugged a Rode NT3 into it...the following is what came...

    Guitar Pedal for FX Send

Would something like the Holy Grail work in an fx send for something like the dp-02 or the 424 mkII, even though it does not have left/right out and is made for ts inserts?

    "Jesus" Resurrected

Hey Beagle...why is it always the gear that goes when life throws a setback at you;) I've owned both the 414 and the 414mkII. The 414 is a great little recorder, and it has 2 effects sends! Remember to use the dbx. Sound wise it's on par with the 424's, minus the eq refinement. Actually...

    "Jesus" Resurrected

Thanks famous. As I said before, I appreciate the encouragement you gave me to try and take this to the next level. I think it's a better recording because of it. I can still hear one or two "ehs", but overall I'm much happier with the harmonies. Thanks! For the bass, I just used a dbx 163x...

Leave me Alone, tracked mostly in Ardour, mixed in garageband

This is tight...not my thing, but sounds great. You have a very good voice. Has a very contemporary rock radio sound to it, kind of like NickelBack/Fuel. Has that type of production quality to it. I think it would do pretty well on mainstream radio...it's nice and punchy-guitars sound good. The...

    Kennedy Avalon

Hi Ray, Nice period piece. I dig all the references to the Kennedy empire (Ms. Monroe, Bay of Bigs, the assignation, cover-ups, etc.) Very cool. The song mirrors the kind of paranoia surrounding that whole period, especially with the quality of your voice. I like the mix alot. I think the...

    "Jesus" Resurrected

The clicks don't bother me. In fact, the sound of autotune is far worse to my ears than a few small analog artifacts. I like that the song is not perfect. To be nit picky, some of the notes are still slightly "off", the vocals jump out a bit in spots, the bass might be a bit loud in this mix...
