first song in while - instrumental - opinions welcomed

This is great. I always like your stuff heat. I also always say early Beck is an influence. This is no exception. Has a a bit of a grateful dead feel to it as well. This would be so easy to write lyrics to. Mix is fun and punchy. Like the abrupt drum intro. Get's things started off right. I...

Anyone care to critique this one?

I don't hear John Lennon. I don't hear Supergrass. I hear Sonic Youth. It's cool. A little untamed, but pretty cool.

    Piper Of Your Dreams (Demo)

I like your voice, and the song is really good. Production sounds a little dodgy, & it doesn't quite punch. The guitar solo is cool. Reminds me a little of Neil Young/Travis type thing. Needs to be remixed. Some of the guitars are getting lost, and it's a bit muddy. Cool song though.

Thanks guys. I don't have a bass guitar anymore. I had one on loan from a friend who finally claimed it after a long time...so no more. I tried a midi bass track, but I didn't dig it too much. Even if I had a real bass, I still think it sounds cooler w/o a bass track. Kind of lends itself to...

    make your eyes bleed METAL!!!!

You guys are seriously tight. I think the mix sounds great. Not a big fan of this vocal style. Your drummer is an animal. Very good.

    Whisper (a 30 year cycle)

I like this alot. I'm a big fan of reverb on vocals and I think it sounds killer. Definitely thick on the vibe mojo. I like her voice alot too. I was 3 when you recorded this.

So I spent two hours or so this morning going through each track and cleaning everything up/mixing. I overwrote the previous version with the new mix, so sorry if there is no reference. I also added little harmonica solo and took out the nonsense talking at the end. I think the mix sounds pretty...

    summer love boogie

This is great. Your voice is great, and your harmonica playing rocks. I wish I could lay down a harmonica track like this on my songs. The production and the recording sound great to my ears. Cool song and well done.

Please Critique - Quirky Pop Tune

Yeah, Fountains of Wayne comes to mind. Little bit of a beach boys break down in the middle there that was nice. Main vocal doesn't quite sit in the mix for whatever reason, but I can't say why. The mix sounds solid, the vocal just stand out in a weird way to my ears. Maybe experiment a little...

Thanks for the comments guys. I really appreciate it. Yeah, I drenched the vocals in reverb. I love reverb. I wasn't trying to make the song sound old or whatever, but I guess reverb has a way of doing that. I have to say that the warm vocal preset in garageband sounds really decent. Cancers...

Please Critique - Acoustic Pop Tune

Mix sounds pretty good to me. Has a very Ben Folds/Billy Joel vibe to it. In that respect it works. Nice job!

    Chopin Revisited (Latin Jazz Guitar)

Love the bossanova vibe. It sounds really good. You play guitar very well. Would love to hear some vocal accents, like a Pat Metheny thing. I think that would make it even better. Good job.

    kick mine

This is very nice. Has a nice Tempted by a Fruit of Another vibe to it. Production is superclean, and it punches nicely. Mix sounds very balanced. I would love to hear some vocals, but it's nice and chill as is.

My experiment with samples--did it work?

Yeah...this works well. I agree that the bass could have a little more aggressive edge to it, but it's a cool song. Reminds me of some Beck stuff, and I can see the Shock the Monkey reference as well.

Hey everyone. Did this one in garageband. Used an m-audio solo as an interface and a at2035 microphone/rode nt3 to record everything. For the vocals I used the at2035 exclusively. This one is called "Directions". Feedback is welcome. Thanks for listening...

Tascam DP-004 & Blackbird (first impressions)

Used my DP-004 on the back porch today... So today I had a few moments to practice my finger picking and try to come up with some ideas for a song while the mrs. and kid were out. I'm posting some of what I recorded. You can hear neighborhood sounds like birds and lawnmowers, and around the 3...

Tascam DP-004 & Blackbird (first impressions)

Well I bought it for it's battery capabilities...it's portability. Not sure what kind of adapter it would use. I would say I've used the unit for a total of four hours, and the battery indicates "full". Also, I didn't even crack the manual to figure this thing out, but I have had some history...

Tascam DP-004 & Blackbird (first impressions)

Yes you can set the inputs to stereo or mono mode. Also , you can assign any of the tracks either input a or b, your choice. You can mix and match input options as well, so you could use an external mic or guitar on input a, and one of the internal mics on input b at the same time. Much like the...

Tascam DP-004 & Blackbird (first impressions)

The wave format and the stereo condenser microphones, not to mention the ease of use, were the main reasons I jumped on this. Had it not been for the 44.1kHz/16-bit WAV, I probably would have passed for some other manufacturer's model. And you are right, the price seems to be right.
