Thinking of getting my first electric guitar and amp

I'm considering either a Godin LG P90 or a Yamaha Pacifica with either a Crate Palomino V16 (15W) or a Vox AD50VT (50W). The weird thing is that the 50W amp is cheaper. Is it because the Palomino is tube, while the Vox is tube modeling? I'm also considering a Crate V Series amp, though I'd have...

Can improper phantom power procedure damage condensers?

Thanks. I'm wasn't sure if it could result in sound quality loss in the microphone. I'm more worried about my AT4047 than my Firebox. I don't notice anything, so I'm assuming that like you said, as long as everything still works, it's okay.

Can improper phantom power procedure damage condensers?

I haven't been keeping track these past few months I've begun recording, but are you not supposed to take out the mic while the phantom power's still on? The proper procedure is to power it on after plugging in and powering off before, right? Have I been doing any serious damage if I've done it...

Are there any 4 tracks with phantom power?

I'm just wondering. If I get into analog, I'll either have to get a phantom power box or use a battery powered condenser like Rode NT3 or dynamic mic.

If my Tascam portastudio doesn't have dbx noise reduction built-in?

I have the Ministudio Porta02 (mkII). I'm not sure if the absence of noise reduction is a bad thing? I think this is a newer model, released in 1998, so I don't know if the signal to noise ratio was improved by then? Or am I totally wrong with this? Should've mentioned this earlier. Hope this...

If my Tascam portastudio doesn't have dbx noise reduction built-in?

What options do I have? Can I get a separate dbx module and run it through my recording chain? Or would I be better off just getting a portastudio model that has it built-in? Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Affordable MIDI controller recommendation?

I'm considering either the Novation ReMOTE SL 25 or the Edirol PCR-300 32. I'm using Cubase to record, but am getting frustrated with having to use my mouse to tweak softsynths. I'm trying to get into designing my own sounds, and the mouse setup isn't really working time-efficiency-wise. I'm...

    Good soundfont electric bass?

Interesting you mention that. I downloaded that 2 days ago, but never got to installing everything. Yeah, I tried the bass last night, excellent :). I think I'd eventually get an electric bass...the bigger problem is piano (I don't have the space or $), but there are plenty of very inexpensive...

    Good soundfont electric bass?

I already have the naturally decaying bass guitar I found on Hammersound.net. Would I be better off looking for cheap payware than freeware?

Tweaking drum samples so it's not totally mechanical sounding

Thanks for the tips. I have another quick question. When you input your drum hits with a keyboard or drum pad, do you usually have to move the beats around manually, with latency being a factor and all? Or if you have a computer with enough RAM and processing speed, you can just record it in...

Tweaking drum samples so it's not totally mechanical sounding

I know it would be easier to edit if I loaded the samples into a drum machine like Grizzly, right? But the problem with that is that I only have 2 VST slots.

Tweaking drum samples so it's not totally mechanical sounding

I don't know if I'm using drum samples how most other people do it. I've found some royalty free drum samples from audioskull.com, and I'm basically just importing .wav files into cubase le and then copying and pasting them. I've got it so it's in rhythm. Is there a way to vary the sound of the...

Who went to school for recording? Who hometaught themselves?

A CS major with a music tech minor doesn't seem so bad right now, especially while I still can look forward.

Who went to school for recording? Who hometaught themselves?

A curious thought just occurred to me. By the same argument of "don't do it, you're destined to live in a box--they don't give a crap about your degree," can't you say that every arts/language-related major is a waste of time? They could've just learned it through Internet forums or just by...

Who went to school for recording? Who hometaught themselves?

Reading some of this makes me kind of anxious about what I'm going to do with my near future. I just transferred from safe majors in cs then to chem, now to music with music tech emphasis at UMaryland Baltimore. I'm already 21. I think music's one of a few things I'm sure I have the least bit...

Are drum pads on a keyboard necessary?

Based on what I know so far, I think it depends on if you're more comfortable with or prefer pads. I'm fine for now with just using synth action keys to input MIDI drums. But I haven't tried pads yet. I kind of wish I'd kept my Axiom instead of replacing it with a Micron, considering all the...

Do bands notate their songs using composition software?

Yeah, I was just wondering what most bands do. I'm trying to branch out into composing, like learning Finale and everything. But I have to master music theory first. I think trying to recording with just me and my acoustic guitar's helped me a lot with my chord structures and melodies, just...

Differences in sonic qualities of Naiant X-Q and X-M?

Oh, wow, thanks for that info. That makes me even more happy I bought some Naiants. :)

Differences in sonic qualities of Naiant X-Q and X-M?

Oh okay, thanks. Are omni's best used as room mics and not particularly good for close-miking?

Differences in sonic qualities of Naiant X-Q and X-M?

I just got a matched pair of X-Q's since I haven't experimented with cello and acoustic guitar tracks in stereo yet. I've tried browsing naiant's website for audio samples of the X-M, but came up empty. Can anyone who has both comments on which imparts more of a warmer, fuller quality?
