    Right Lyrics, Wrong Music.... Help

Honestly, if you played a melody that was any less upbeat, the lyrics would be unbearably downbeat.

    Mark Knopfler

One of my favorite artists covered "Romeo and Juliet," that song rocks my world. Any Knopfler fans, please throw me your opinions of good places to start listening to his work.

    Johnson JT50

Hey all, I've had my JT50 for quite a while, but have honestly never explored all the amp models it can emulate. These are the amps within as described by the owner's manual: Blues Combo -a driving distorted combo tone Black Face -based on a ‘65 Fender Twin Reverb Tweed -based on a ‘57...

Is commercial success with non-commercial music possible?

That site is possibly the best idea in independent music marketing and artist development that I've heard of . . . today. Seriously though, brilliant.

    Guitar suggestions ?

I agree that the only way to decide on a guitar is to go play a bunch of them. But, the original poster may very well find out about some guitars he had not thought of. He may not have thought of playing a Fat Strat, for example. I'd also agree with whoever suggested Dean - they make great...

POLL: One guitar or Five guitars?

At these particular dollar ranges, I'd have to buy one $1K guitar. My reasoning: you can buy one guitar that will have a quality genuine tone, or you can have 5 guitars that sound like cheap reproductions of quality tones. Honestly, I haven't played all of the bargain guitars up there; but, I...

    Sweet Addiction

Listened once, the groove definitely makes the lyrics come alive. I was not fond of them on the page, to be honest. They feel a little dictated by the rhymes. But, hearing them sung is entirely different and they do pop much better through the speakers. I think you could stand to take a few...

Thinking about a Taylor or other High-End Acoustic

Well all, thanks one more time for the input. I will be arriving back in my home of CT this wednesday, and beginning the shopping shortly thereafter, taking all your suggestions into account. Thanks again, and any further thoughts appreciated.

Thinking about a Taylor or other High-End Acoustic

Replies to all: mikemorgan - Thanks. Please tell Taylor, or any other manufacturer so. :) madaudio - Thanks, I'll check out Benito Milnoque - thanks, I'll play as many of those as I can find when I get a chance. My unit is national guard from CT, I live in southwest CT, near new haven...

Thinking about a Taylor or other High-End Acoustic

Hello All, I've been deployed in Afghanistan for just a bit too long now. I haven't spent a dime here. I'll be saving most of my earnings, but I do intend to spoil myself on 1-2 new axes. I've heard many criticisms about Taylors. Overpriced, all machine made, all bolt-on necks, etc. The two...

Life After Indie (or) What's the Next Step?

"Program director on the radio / won't play my record 'til the caller tells him so" --O.A.R.'s musical lament at your situation I have no experience to speak of, but it seems logical, to me at least, that a station won't play tracks unless they know their listeners want to hear them (with the...

Selling my songs - question and need advice

Making a percentage deal is actually a lot easier than it sounds. They tell you how many copies of the recording they want to press, and you make a license for that many copies for such and such a price, further printings requiring further negotiation. Just make sure you own the song rights when...

how do you write a bridge? Song structure in general?

I'm just curious if you could cite some books/websites that detail the musical principles of the wundt curve and the types of bridges you mentioned? In fact, any resources that you learned songwriting concepts from?

Selling my songs - question and need advice

I should mention that I have never sold a song. So understand that I really dont know much about the subject. However, I'm quite sure that if someone offered me a flat rate to buy a copyright outright, I'd have choice words for them. These choice words would likely rhyme with 'truck off.' My...

    A Callous Thread

I dont get thick callouses anymore, but when I did I'd file them to smooth them out if they were starting to tear and peel. Helped keep them from tearing off.

    Parker Flies

Thanks Light, I hadn't really considered the finish. I'm content with those little flaws though, I'm just in love with the way the guitars play. Being that you build guitars, I don't suppose you could tell me anything about these particular tonewoods and pick ups?

    Parker Flies

I have decided that the next (electric) guitar I buy will be a parker fly. I have a nitefly and absolutely love the way Parkers play. I'd like a fly for the lighter weight, one-piece construction, etc. Having decided on a fly, the major decisions left to make are wood and pickups. Fly Classic -...

Jam Packs (Not sure if this is the right forum really...)

So, I'm looking for Jam Packs, or similar sample collections, in time signatures other than common time. I just want to be able to compose little jam tracks to improvise over, trying to really get a feel for different signatures.

Help me decided on a new studio name.

I didn't vote, I suggest Red Room Recording, rather than Red Recording Room. That Red Room just has a better rhythm to it, IMO, that complements the alliteration rather well.
