Do I need to adjust (nudge) my guitar tracks to compensate for latency?

I figured Pro Tools would compensate automatically, thanks for the great reply! I just wanted to make sure before I spent hours practicing up a tune to really nail it. Thanks again.

Do I need to adjust (nudge) my guitar tracks to compensate for latency?

Just picking up recording again and I am forgetting some of the basics. I just recorded some scratch tracks along with a technical metal drum beat and I am wondering of recording latency might be making my performance not as in time as it should be, or if it is just my sloppy guitar playing(!)...

Anyone using LED lights in the studio? Trying to reduce guitar hum.

Hi there, I am trying to figure out if LED lights would be good for my little project studio. Fluorescents are out because my girlfriend is epileptic. I suppose incandescents could work if I moved them far from where I record (6-7 ft. would be max). Thanks! Chris

Tweeters 1-2" from vertical center of room, can I get away with that?

Ok thanks guys. I read in some home studio blog that I shouldn't have the tweeters exactly halfway between the floor ceiling so I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a big deal if I had them really close to that point.

Tweeters 1-2" from vertical center of room, can I get away with that?

I just measured the tweeter height on my new Yamaha HS8s and fancy speaker stands - the tweeters are sitting quite close to the vertical midpoint of the room. I could take the feet off of my stands to lower them another inch but then they'd sit right on the carpet. What do you think? I am...

Should I use a damper underneath my subwoofer?

Thanks much. I figured as much but it is always good to get other's feedback on this stuff!

Should I use a damper underneath my subwoofer?

Hi there, I use an ikey audio m-10sv2 subwoofer along with my Yamaha HS8s to fill out the very bottom end (around 40 hz is what it is set to). It is sitting on a medium thick rug which covers most of the wood floor of my mixing room. I have a good amount of room treatment now so I am starting...

Typical settings for sidechain compression of bass ducking the kick drum on Hard Rock

Thanks very much guys. I understand compression at a basic level but am very much a beginner. Now I have a starting point though, which is great!

Typical settings for sidechain compression of bass ducking the kick drum on Hard Rock

Hi there, I am messing with sidechaining for the absolute first time and I am curious what might be typical starting point settings for a compressor on the bass guitar reacting to a kick drum. The track I am mixing sounds a bit like The Cranberries "Zombie" on the chorus or end part. Thank...

Has anyone here taken audio production courses from Berkelee or Full Sail online?

I have an opportunity submit music for use on TV shows like "Pawn Stars" and other ones I've never heard of but my mixes are too amateur (my words, not theirs). They're right, they most certainly are low quality. I want to learn mixing the absolute best way that I can. I have the money to go...

    Best wav to mp3 converter?

Hi there, I am looking to convert wav files to mp3s for professional use. Can anyone recommend a really good program for this? Thanks, Chris

What do you think of the low end on this thrash/death metal instrumental?

Ok thanks. Yeah, I was using Amplitube's bass amps on my old demos but they just weren't cutting it for the metal stuff. At least I couldn't seem to get them to sound very good for metal. So I switched back to faking a bass amp tone using just some distortion from my DAW. If you look at the...

What do you think of the low end on this thrash/death metal instrumental?

These drums sound more natural to me, nice work. I am going to try to keep working with what I have bought so far, but I do agree that the drums on my track sound sort of fake. I might be able to improve on that with more dynamics in the separate hits and timing. Thanks for posting this.

What do you think of the low end on this thrash/death metal instrumental?

Thanks Xcaliber! Do you have any music up on Youtube or soundcloud I could check out? Can the "forwardness" of the drums or guitars in the mix be adjusted by shaving off or boosting the really high frequencies? That the only thing I can think of, but I am operating at an amateur level so my...

What do you think of the low end on this thrash/death metal instrumental?

Mixing is very difficult for me, especially the low end. What do you think of the bass and kick drums on this and how could I improve them? Thanks for your time,

Critique the mix on the guitar demo?

I hear what you mean on the intro, thanks for that. I think in retrospect I would do the delays differently. Not so side to side.

Critique the mix on the guitar demo?

Yeah, I agree with you there. Not sure how to handle that properly, switching from from a clean guitar panned center to two distorted guitars panned right and left in a build.
