If your ISP is like mine I have to go over there myself sometimes and kick the mules to get them going again.

    mr-8 recording question

russman, you remind me of myself. I always have to ask someone before I can figure it out on my own. For some reason, asking someone about something that I've been trying to figure out unlocks my brain. Welcome to the forum and the world of the little red box.

    Here's a song for you.

What voice I have was given to me by the one I sing about. I can't take any credit for it.

    Here's a song for you.

I know exactly where you are coming from. Both condenser and pre-amp are on my list. Right now I have SM58s and Beta 58s (what my group uses for live sound). This song was actually recorded on a Beta 58 which is a little hotter and accentuates the highs better than the SM58. The group didn't...

mixer w MR-8 (or other such standalone recorder)

A couple more things. The signal chain is not going to be as you described. Your mic or instrument will be plugged into the mixer, then you will come out of your mixer into the MR-8 mic or instument inputs. This way you could adjust levels and eq before recording. After recording, mix down to a...

mixer w MR-8 (or other such standalone recorder)

I'm not using mine with a mixer yet, but I'm gonna get one very soon. The main reason I'm gonna get a mixer is for mic preamps and phantom power(the MR-8 does not have phantom power and the pre-amps are not that great). Also I will be able to use the eqs on the channels. Other folks are probably...

    Here's a song for you.

This is a Southern Gospel song that I recorded on the MR-8. I can't believe how much it degraded it converting to mp3, but I guess that is to be expected. It is a song called Out of the Blue. I used a soundtrack and did the lead, tenor, and baritone vocals myself (it's kinda cool to be a one man...

I think you can put a bit in a horses mouth. I heard it helps to drive one. I think bits has something to do with money too. The cheerleaders at our football games used to say; two bits, four bits, six bits a dollar, all for the Chieftains stand up and holler. Come to think of it, I know it...

Now I know who you sound like. Don't get mad at me you might not like her, but I like her voice and she is one of my favorite female vocalists. OK, don't hit me, you sound a lot like Wynonna. You really have a great voice. And being a great guitar player must run in your family. There is one...

    Hook up new monitors??

Man that is a great job on It Is Well. I sat here and added another harmony part. I think I might have to look into getting a mic like that. It really seems to work good for vocals. Just so I'll have accurate knowledge about the mic, did you use any eq cuts or boosts?

    MR-8 memory

Your input is appreciated Guitarman. My problem right now is probably the fact that I just got a set of monitors. I was mixing on computer speakers before. Now when I play the songs I mixed on the computer speakers on these monitors they make the mix sound very harsh with too much high mids and...

Yeah, bdbuck. Tell us about the T-rex. haha!! I did a lot of research on building a computer that I would record on and just the soundcard alone cost as much as a MR-8. Besides, I couldn't even get my monitors hooked up without you guy's help, much less build a computer.

Guitarman sounds like you know something about the analog domain. I like the way the MR-8 is inexpensive and how, since it is digital, it is easy to use. Have you been able to add anything to your recordings to get rid of some of that digital harshness?

You are talking about the 24 bit n-track. The 16 bit is $45. What do you need the 24 bit for? Also, check for other free plugins before buying the fasoft ones. I've found some great free ones. Of course, if you've got the money go ahead. I'm just a tight wad.

I have a 15'x17' room in my basement that I am slowly but surely emptying out items that have been stored there and getting it ready for a home studio. I've already took care of the walls with extra thick insulation and sheathing in place of sheetrock that really deadens the sound. Now if I just...

    Hook up new monitors??

I will be buying probably a Behringer UB802. I think it is the one with two mic inputs for $70 or $80 and a condenser soon. I just wish that musician's friend had the Studio Projects B1? I like buying from them. I already have an account with them and get 90 days same as cash. I might just have...

    VF80 or MR8

Ok, I understand now. I guess it's just according to how much money you want to spend. I think in your situation I would go for the VF80. That way your creativity will not be limited my the recording time on the MR-8. I don't know how easy it is to transfer wavs from the VF80 to pc (does it have...
