    Mic vs preamps - TheListeningSessions.com

Thanks so much for this link. I'm new to this stuff and am in the process of shopping for a condenser for vocals. I agree also that you can hear the difference in the mics but not the preamps. It was also interesting to hear that some of the less expensive mics (in my opinion) sound better than...

The ULTIMATE Entry-Level Mic Pre Poll... :op

I didn't read all 11 pages of this thread so you might have bought a pre already or someone might have already said what I'm gonna say. But, there was a thread on the n-track board at www.fasoft.com about budget pre-amps where a guy actually tested many of the ones you have listed. Go to the...

    best mic for the buck

I was reading a thread on the n-track forum (www.fasoft.com) about pre-amps. The guys on there said that the pre-amps on the Behringer MX series mixers are not as good as the UB series. Might be something to think about.

    MR-8 memory

Guitarman, Welcome. I know exactly what you are talking about getting chewed to pieces. By the way that some people reply in the other forums they think they are on prorecording.com not homerecording.com.

    Fostex MR-8 v1.05

There is also, I can't remember exactly where, screen settings where you can make the screen easier to read. Check under menu and system.

    Punch in out MR-8 question

Thanks. Another question. Would it also work and sync if I just started recording the harmonies on the chorus by manually forwarding to the proper place and then hit record?

How do you practice before recording with MR-8?

I need some lessons on board etiquette. Besides I've always been taught to listen to my ogres, I mean elders (hee hee). Here I go again. Sorry Tom!

    Punch in out MR-8 question

Here is the scenario. I have recorded the lead vocal on a song. Now I want to go back and record the harmony parts on the chorus. Instead of going back and playing the whole song again, how do I just play back the parts where I want to record the harmonies? Also, will this still sync up right...

How do you practice before recording with MR-8?

I elect morindae to write a MR-8 manual. You do a lot better than the Fostex folks. Thanks. I was just going to ask another question but I will start another thread. Almost highjacked another thread. Excuse me. bdbdbuck is teaching me some manners.

    Fostex MR-8 v1.05

When you turn the MR-8 on watch the screen and it will say what version you are running. If you have a version lower than version 1.03 you will have issues transferring files to the pc. I have version 1.03 and haven't had any problems whatsoever. I would like to also know what is the difference...

    Fostex MR-8 v1.05

You shouldn't have any trouble running n-track at all. I believe with your OS you will have to have a card reader to transfer files, but some of the others on here can help you out on that. I'm running XP and am not familiar with the readers. Oh yeah, and n-track is software. It's not but about...

    Vocals

If I am buying a inexpensive (less than $200) condenser to be used primarily for vocals and it is the only condenser that I will have (until I can afford another) should I be looking at a large or small diaphram condenser?

    New songs done on mr-8

Bigsnake, I've learned that the best thing to do after recording something is dump it in the pc and don't even listen to it again for about a week. I think they call this mixing on "fresh ears".

    New songs done on mr-8

Thanks morindae. And Bigsnake, sorry for highjacking your thread. If I don't ask something when I'm thinking about it I forget.

    New songs done on mr-8

morindae, I don't believe I've ever heard you say what you are monitoring with? I'm very close to buying some, but still haven't made up my mind what to get.

    Condenser for my voice? listen

I didn't have a problem with the vocals at all. Maybe a eq cut here or there or different effects, but overall I like how the mic (Beta 58a) sounds with my voice. I also have a SM58 that I could try. The reason I was even asking about a condenser was that several people, after hearing the collab...

    Condenser for my voice? listen

chessrock, I agree about the drum machine. That recording was done from 3 different areas of the US. Georgia, Virginia, and Washington. It was a collab project. The mix you heard was the first mix. The final mix is going to be on the vol. 2 comp CD. We had a great guitarist and bassist, but...

    Condenser for my voice? listen

Your the second person to tell me Studio Projects B-1. Sad to say I don't have anywhere in my area to go in and try out different mics. Just might have to take some of you guy's word for it.

How do we keep our ears and heads clear?

This time of year is the worse for me. Whatever I'm allergic to is blooming here in Ga. and it gives me fits. What's worse is this is also the busiest time of year for the group I sing with. I've found that the best thing for me to do is just stay inside as much as possible. We have two air...
