    Hey homebuilders

Thanks for the input so far. The case I have has folding ears/handles., but I hadn't thought about wheelin' it around. I wasn't aware of Atholon/Cubase problems. I know that there have always been VIA chipset issues though. Interesting.

    Hey homebuilders

If I you a chance to do it over again.... What's the one thing you would NOT do, or do differently on your next box? I just got my case and am putting together a "Field" dedicated music PC for taking out on the town. I don't want to make all the same mistakes you may have. I just admitted the...

    nature recording

Yea , I think I take the signal out of my DECK that has a lightpipe into the ultramatch, then SPDIF coax into my PC. I'm at work now and it's been a while since I looked at the hookup...

Hey Tex, I run my MD thru a Behringer Ultramatch to defeat the coding. No problemo. The only "B" piece I have, I take that back . I got a battery mixer of their's too, but I haven't given it a test drive yet.

    MOTU 828 vs Layla24

that's cool evhwanabe. I just read on their site that they have drivers for XP & win2k so I stand corrected. How much have you "worked" it, and what's your software?

    MOTU 828 vs Layla24

I think the MOTU's were able to run with 9X OS's but to my (limited) knowlege they don't support XP/2000. I was looking at the 828 too but I'm holding off and sticking to stereo on my old laptop. RME Hammerfall is one I was looking at the most seriously. My Cubase would work great with it.

How many of you actually record for a living?

It would be nice to at least make enough to pay for the gear. Maybe it's time for a tax write off.

What is the best 'live' vocal mic & pre

I really like my EV 767-A's. that said they are hyper-cardiod so you will will need to stay more in front of it, and it doesn't have the proximity effect that a 58 has.

    Jecklin Disc, who's made one?

something I noticed on that photo link from pipeline. The little ball and chain to keep the consistant location from the center of the disc. I have started on some using a 12" plexiglass type disk covered with lambswool on both sides but the plastic cracked on me.(my own fault) Oh, and the mics...

Hello from a new member - Heavy Duty mic stands.... suggestions please?

Comming from a photography backround, I think larger light stands with booms would work great. You may even find some used. The ends usually come with a 3/8-16 thread adapter standard.

    tube pre necessary for drums?

Soundcraft but I would suggest that you get one with at least 8 inputs as it will be the hub of your system A Mackie 1202 is another alternative

    Advice on recording barbershop quartet

I never have but this will be fodder for the sharks if it's a sucky idea. I'd try the 67 right in the middle with everybody the same distance from the mic. (4-5 feet) then EQ high to the right and low to the left.
