Followup.... Went back and tried DC offset on one of the old problem files, and just as advertised, the center line returned to center! The files were still clipped and blown out, but if he brings down his levels, he may actually have workable files for the future - thanks again for all the help...

Yup - I don't think that I'll be giving up using my ears, but the pace that I work at is so fast and furious (it's not unusual for me to be tracking and/or editing 200-300 individual files over the course of a busy day) that I depend a lot on "reading" the files to tell me where I need to pull...

There are always certain clients whose waveforms are not symmetrical with the center, but do start and end at the center line, and I have no distortion with them....and it's always the same clients whose vocal forms look like that, regardless of where they record - I can tell who it is just by...

Aha!! Now I can put a name to the problem with sound files that I've been getting consistently from one of our clients - I can see the offset in the waveform (though I don't hear it), and his stuff tends to clip at levels that don't seem that excessive... ...the quality of the sound is not...

I'd try eating a banana or something with potassium, and also make sure that you are well-hydrated....drink plenty of water or Gatorade so that if you sweat while you're playing, you don't dehydrate, which is what sounds like happened to you....

.Thanks.....:) I kinda figured so, but thought that maybe I was missing something.....the fact that I was able to take the bass into the DI jack on the mic preamp made me wonder..... and I obviously need to do a lot of remedial reading on mic/level/line level/watts/amps/ohms stuff....:o :D

LOL... ...but actually - I do have clients that use their cars to record VO auditions while they're on the road....and they don't sound as good as those recorded in a properly treated studio, but they do sound better than those recorded in bad hotel rooms... ...which is damning with faint...

You have to use all of them....duh!

The 7-pin cable is the only reason that I'm keeping my V69 after getting the V77....I figure that it's worth keeping for a backup cable and power supply... ....sorry - I know that doesn't help much....:o....but it'll bump you back to the top....

They've been great to me - got the candy and catalog(s) with my order, and great customer service....when there was a problem with the unit that I ordered, they rush-shipped me a new one immediately, before waiting to get the old one back....and paid for the return shipping on the old item...
