I also like the Fender Mustang, but it really has one basic sound (more if you play with string selection, etc.), but it mostly just sounds like a ballsy, punchy little P-bass.

Depending on which range of sounds you want to play with, the EB-family (and it's clones) are nice, and there are some cool hollow-bodied and chambered, semi-hollow bodied basses that have different pickup configurations that give them a good range of sound options. I have an Epiphone Allen...

I've had both....and I'd go for the V77..... ...depends on the sound you're going for....V67 is better for my own voice - the V69 just sounded muddy, and I wound up trading it away after getting the V77, which is like butter. YMMV.

For home VO work, I have been using a DIY setup combination of (703ish-ideaish) panels, blankets (clipped to dowels suspended from ceiling hooks), and Auralex X-pander triangles and getting decent results, but I have to be extremely careful about placement. I just picked up an sE reflexion...

I found that I needed to have it turned on before I started up the computer, or I had the same problem. Once I figured that out, mine has worked like a champ, and it's a minor inconvenience to restart the computer if it's already running when I decide to record. Hopefully, that will work for...
