Do you really buy that expensive recording software?

Patent laws already give you the right to build one of anything you want, if you're capable, as long as you don't try to resell it. (IIRC) Not the same as copying software. Now, if you wrote your own version, then sure.

Do you really buy that expensive recording software?

If it's valuable enough to pirate, then it has value. It's just more difficult to be compensated for digital creations, which DO cost money to make, regardless of how cheap it is to distribute. This is just a case where someone says "fuck you, and all your development work" and just takes what...

    Microphone trouble

You should also use headphones when you record. You don't want to record what's coming out of your computer speakers, and having your speakers on can also cause nasty feedback.

New Hard Rock Tune, Help mix please

That is the "Mini Stonehenge" of snare drums. But other than the snare, this is pretty bad ass. :)

    synthish track, mastering problems

The music sounds tight, but you're right, it the mix sounds flat. Distant, maybe? I'm not sure, I'm not very good at this yet. The drums sound very lo-fi. Sorry, wish I could be more help. I'm curious what the experienced members would say. I will say that if new monitors can improve my...

    Yesterday - Beatles cover

Yeah, I put 'em right up front. I have no shame! :D Thanks for listening! -Mike Btw, I think I like this Beta58. Seems to make me sound "beefier" but that could just be the cold.

Thanks for your comments! I'm going to retrack the vocal when I get over this funk. Of course, then I wont have an excuse. :D

    Yesterday - Beatles cover

I wanted to test out my new Beta 58 mic so I decided to try a cover. The guitar is my Martin D16 running direct. Three tracks, the fingerpicked rhythm, the solo guitar and vocal. I took some TheraFlu this morning which gave me about a half hour window to do the vocals without breaking out...

    Home Recording's Dirty Little Secret

I didn't really think about it, I just wanted to record my ideas. Actually, I'm surprised at the results I have been getting, they're better than what I expected. I figured, there's a reason the big boys record in in facilities I could never afford to build for myself. If they could do it...

Do you really buy that expensive recording software?

"Spirit of learning?" HUH? What are we talking about here, professors, or software companies? Is it their job to teach you, with their resources, software and programming time? Information should not be free. It can be, but nobody should have the right to say how someone else manages their...

With all of this talk about 'the source being the most important aspect...'

Oh, and charge everyone the same! Word gets around and some people will get pissed when they hear someone else got a better deal for the same service. Happy customers usually don't talk much, but the pissed off ones will tell everyone and anyone they know if they think you screwed them, right...

With all of this talk about 'the source being the most important aspect...'

I don't do studio work for a living, but I do provide technical services (in another field) and personally would never do free or reduced priced work. You will end up stuck, and in the long run are selling yourself short. Especially, if you're good at what you do. I would market more...

Is "Guitar Hero" Bad for Guitarists?

Well, that will make you listen, think keenly about rhythm and tempo, and if you do it with others, will learn ya 'bout playing with a group as well. ;)

Fondest Wish (early demo of new song) -- comments welcomed

This is extremely repetitive. I don't mean to be harsh, but it sounds like an automated appregiator (not sure if that's a word, lol). You know, like that mode on the Casio synthesizers that plays a background melody while you hold down one key? Basically, it sounds like a small handful of one...
