Guitar Recording - Amp Miking or DI?

i agree, get a nice amp and a decent mic. sm58/57 is a good inexpensive choice that you can also use for vocals and drums and whatever else you can think of. i have recently taken to both miking and DI-ing (from the amp) and either using both or choosing the best and deleting the other. i...

How do I hook up my Fostex?

yes you need a mixer with 16 ins and 16 outs, then you can record and playback without any wire swapping. you will need 2 wiring looms with 16 phono to 16 jacks also. good luck with the fostex, i am suprised you forked out for one without knowing how to plug one in. go over to analogue only...

    dust

yep i didnt think it was sticky shed, but it is excessive shed. it was set up and calibrated by a guy that knows what hes doing and i trust him, although it could have been knocked out of alignment in transit. i suspect the first guide actually, but i will check tomorrow. the tape is brand new...

tips on recording acoustic guitar through pickup

i just recorded a friend of mines e.p. i micked up his guitar but i also saw he had a nice (wooden) pick up on his guitar, so i thought i may as well record though both and mute the pick up later :) and it acually sounded good. i ended up hard panning the signals and it sounded like two...

    raging guitars hi gain

yep youv'e got it already. what you hear as an awesome full sound is probably effected by the other instruments in the mix. if you heard the guitars soloed it would sound much weaker. you get a bigger overall sound if you find the right frequencies in the mix in between the bass and the drums...

    fostex e-16 mechanical question

yes it is supposed to. the little arm clicks in when pressed so that if you don't want the tape lifted then it isn't.

    Using compression as a send

a compressor over the whole of the drums is not a silly idea at all it is used all the time. it can really boost the kit and you can get some good effects going too. i am not sure what you mean with the sends? maybe send the kit from your pc through a compressor and record back in? yep it would...

    The recording process...........chain of events

mastering is a must, if its going to be played next to other albums, say on radio or something, then you want the volume and eq to be similar to others. comparing your final mix with albums in a similar style is helpful.

    Thin Vocals - Help

double tracking and triple tracking should work, it works alot better if you do it for real rather than offsetting and pitchshifting a duplicate, in my opinion anyway.
