Audio mixdown sounds terrible, any advice

remember if you are mixing down and exporting from 48kHz to cd quality 44.1kHz then there will be a noticable drop of quality. i find with my cubase (an old version vst32) that when i export mixdowns, even at the same quality as the arrangement, there is a loss of quality (dynamic and clarity)...

    Why analogue and not digital?

wow, this thread has been going on for ages. what would you lot say if i tried to steer it toward slagging electronic instruments like drum machines and synths (namely ones recreating acoustic sounds, strings and piano etc), or are there any (i know there are) analogue only regulars here who...

    Drumming in the live room

uh oh, my drums are in the corner, facing out, so i have to clamber over them to get in and get headphone wires tangled round the stands and all that. anyway i get a nice room sound so i guess it depends on the walls and size of the room, but maybe i would get a better sound in the centre. my...

I have been trying to record for ages and I cant!!

is a toneport a DI/amp modeler? are you useing a pre-amp before your soundcard? i guess you are if your recording mic'ed amps. make sure you are recording at a good quality setting, 48kHz 24bit. mixing seems to be the problem here. all you can do is practice, i think the main things to look...

    A question on vocal mics

i would go for a soundcard with say 4 inputs, and some pre-amps (dmp3 style) you don't need a mixer at this stage.

    Tascam Portastudio 424 + Computer

should be fine, if you press record on both then add a four count over all tracks, that makes it easy to line up on yer pc. have fun.

Need help creating a decent recording setup

if i were you i would get as many mics on the kit as you want and mix it to a mono track through a mixer on to your pc so thats 1) kit 2) bass on its own 3) guitars 4) vox something like that and don't worry too much about bleed onto other mics, you are recording a jam yes? headphones in...

    Mixdown Degradation

hey mixsit, it seems i am confusing people, my fault as im not using the correct terminology. sorry. when i said mixdown i just meant exporting a full song (un-effected) as a stereo file. and opening a new song/arrangement to play it. i will try it as a direct comparison next time im in the...

    Mixdown Degradation

i haven't been using any effects at all, its a clean session recorded before mixing. this is how i have noticed it more than normal. also i am exporting to a clean new song (file) at the same quality so no degrading of quality should happen? its definatley WAV. at 48kHz and 24bit (i have even...

    Mixdown Degradation

hi, i have been using an old version of cubase for a long time, vst/32 i cant remember the version. on pc. its really easy to use and its been kind to me, anyway i find its quality on mixdown to be poor though. even exporting a song recorded at 48kHz 24bit at the same spec, there is a...

How often to clean tape path?

i have found RGMI 911 to shed just as much as quantegy 456 in my experience. i had to clean every hour to avoid highs disappearing, my problem was the tape was rubbing on out of line guides which was producing more dust than normal, now its fine. can go a whole day with no noticable problems.

    Routing question

hmmm, do you have 8 tracks coming in to the mixer and 8 going out, all as seperate cables? if that is set up right then it sounds like the mixer setup is the problem not the wiring. i dont know the desk you have, but with my eurodesk you have to route a signal to the groups and pan it (grp...

    Too much ride

eq could bring it down a good few db if you can isolate the frequency with an accurate eq. i would say eq and compression or multiband compression like someone already said if you have one.
