Changing horses
Love the song, awesome. listened to it three times
I thought the slap back on the vocals suit the early rock 'n roll vibe
There some weird click going on on some of the snare hits. like it clipped but the volume has been turned down or some strange compression artifact
Drums...
Nice, Kind of Zep meets Clannad
Acoustic guitars sound great, Vocals sit really well and are very well done.
Only thing I would say was it seemed bass light. A couple of times I thought I could a hint of a bass but most of the time it wasn't there. Even in the solo (which was well done) the...
This is cool stuff, Really enjoyed
Changes I would make are:
Cymbals are really up front and make it seem like the whole band is within the sphere of the overheads.
Kick and snare on the other hand feel like they are way off in the distance but that's maybe because the cymbals are so up front...
Thanks for the listens and the feedback so far
that's an interesting comment, Actually there is a slight imbalance RMS wise in favor of the left channel, only a DB or so.
I don't really find myself drawn one way or the other in the stereo field. I'm not necessarily looking for a symetrical mix...
Also leave yourself tons of headroom. Banjos can really twang if you hit a string hard and it's much easier to clip vs say an acoustic guitar and you can easily kill a great take with clipping on a couple of notes due to an over plucked string

I haven't recorded one of my little crappy, happy Brit pappy songs in a while. Been travelling a ton for work plus I've been focussing more on playing out. People seemed to like this one when I mixed it in with some...
Just wanted to share as I found a way to cut the fees down for anyone interested
First of all there are ways to register as a charity and so on but it was more work than I wanted to put in. I have enough on my plate trying to get time to record between work and family go through a bunch more...
This is just opinion of course but from owning and using both hardware low to mid price and software free to high price compressors I think the real difference comes when you hit them hard (like more than 6 dB of gain reduction) on tracking/ track level compressors
I find there to be a...
This can work in a pinch
Waves Doubler
It changes pitch and delay on the fly for up to four "voices" that can also be panned and EQ'd individually
However it's nothing like as good as simply double tracking the vocal
You could spend an hour messing with plugs to get a kind of OK sound or you...
I'm Investigating setting up my next song so that proceeds go to a local school. Kind of local music project supports local school's Art & Music Programs deal. Looking at band camp but Paypal end up taking a 30% cut. Any one have any experience with small dollar (like $1-2) transactions so that...
Yesterday I found a rapper in the pantry eating my bread, Then I heard noises under the sink and found there was one there too. After more checking I found two more rappers behind the TV chewing the wires and six in the garage who ran away and hid when I turned on the light.
I think I have an...
Kind of a silly thread but I'll play while I wait for the leaf blower guys to go away so I can start recording some vocals
First I don't get the whole premise of the thread. I don't particularly like a lot of rap (or dubsteb, or death metal or Emo etc) either but I really don't feel a need to...
I very often will double track acoustic guitars although I rarely bother with stereo Mic'd set up. For my taste stereo sources just eat up way too much space in a mix and can get really cluttered
I will use a mid/side stereo mic set up sometimes if a song has parts that only one guitar that I...
in terms of what is actually in my studio now and not including all the buying and selling on Ebay around $12000 over the last four years
zero personally although I have been in the studio on someone else's time several years ago
I have had a few songs mastered over the years, maybe $400 total...
Man, I'm jealous. I was real close to getting one about six months ago but let the opportunity slip. Now I really regret it. Now I'm constantly prowling the classified, Craigslist, pawnshops, garage sales, going out of business sales in the hope another good one comes up
I felt like I should be chasing dragons down underground holes and blowing up with a bicycle pump till they explode
took me back to my mis spent youth in the arcades
Okay so I think you'll need to get yourself a patchbay
here is how I am set up and i have some of the gear that you mention. I got all of it via eBay, Craigslist, local consignment stores etc and I was able to get this entire set up for under $3400. so keep your eyes open there is a lot of good...
1) Get a compressor, EQ, Filters etc. plug in or hardware, doesn't matter, Record a couple of bits of guitar, bass, vox whatever and then spend several hours playing wit the signal processors to see what they actually do
That way you won't come in and ask what's the best preset for...
Looking at my three flavors of my mic pres, none of them have TS/TRS inputs only XLR
The mic pre inputs on my RME interface are XLR
The mic pre inputs on my M-audio interface are XLR
The inputs on my Black Lion stand alone pre are XLR
Plugging a dynamic mic into the line (TRS) inputs on the...
