    Question about promotion

Having a FB music page is a huge waste of time unless people know about it, which requires active promotion and there is regularly updated content which requires active participation from the page administrator Simply having a FB music page will not make people seek you out. You have to spread...

Why are tube amps so expensive?

Don't seem all that expensive to me in the grand scheme of things Cheaper than a car, more expensive than a loaf of bread, less than I would spend on a guitar Plus if you make em too cheap all sorts of people with no business playing a guitar loud enough for people to hear start getting their...

What's the point of a really good transparent pre-amp?

So the signal is loud enough to be significantly above the noise floor and can be recorded or sent to the PA and be heard

How much does it all matter?

I've often wondered this too. I have some old recordings of Blind Boy Fuller and Rev Gary Davis made 70+ years ago, single mic thrown up in front of them playing wherever they happened to be and they sound great, the performance shines through all that hiss, crackle and no high end. What would...

How much does it all matter?

To me there are a few considerations 1) song and talent always come first. If you have crappy material played by crappy musicians, the best rooms and gear and engineers in the world will give you a pristine recording of crappy material played by crappy musicians 2) gear does matter... to the...

Looking for the sweet spot in a room

what specifically sounds awful that you need to fix? Do you like how it sounds when you play it from where you are standing? A few things to think about Speakers in room corners especially if the speaker cabinet is open backed can cause a lot of bass/mud problems * can you move out of a corner...

Close miking guitar cabs with condenser mics

I usually blend mic's on guitar cabs I'll often go with the 57 on the grill but by itself that's not how a guitar amp sounds to me. I don't listen to guitars with my ear pressed right up against the amp So I'll often have a condenser a few feet out to get some space in the sound which is more...

How good are your ears ?

For me with amp sims/DI I can hear the difference based on how I record amps. I tend to mic amps from further out so there is some "Space" in the sound, amp sims and especially DI don't give you that, at least none of the amp sims I have tried have an option for a M/S mic set up from 6 feet away...

Noise floor of usb interface itself

How are you measuring the noise floor? Is that -55dBFS a peak number from when you turn the unit on or is that the RMS level of the noise So to pose the question another way, does the noise pop up to -55dB dBFS on your DAW meters when you first turn it on and then drop down to -90dBFS...

Getting drums at the 'back' of the mix

Yeah EMI actually had a rule that mics must be AT LEAST 18" away from the drums. Emerick got a lor of flack from the suits at Abbey road for doing what he did with smashing through those rules and had revolver not been so successful he probably would have been shown the door

    Help with strange computer problem!

Its because you have told ACID to scan your entire C drive and so it is attempting load every DLL file on your computer (and there are tens of thousands of them, most of which have nothing to do with audio or plugins) into ACID which is causing it to lock up. I made that mistake once too and you...

    Commercial level results at home

the problem with polishing a turd is that what you end up with, while shiny and sparkly, is still a turd. And it still smells like sh!t :D I'd rather use all that great "polishing" equipment to polish something nice. So I'm finding while my writing, practicing, refining, practicing, rewriting...

Sony acid pro 7 as main daw?

ACID Pro & is 32 bit software It will run in a 64 bit OS like vista or 7 if you load it in 32 bit mode however you will not be able to use any more than 4GB of RAM and very often it has been reported as unstable running this way. It was developed for XP and the very last patch that was released...
