Wow guys, please let's cool it, I feel quite guilty about the whole situation. Thank you all very much for your replies, they've been extremely useful.

I am putting it out as a 12". Basically I have the original version of the single and two remixes, one of which is this track. What I have effectively done is similar to a dj remix where they will sample a section and stick under the acapella, I have just decided to play the music as opposed to...

But it's not just the lyrics that are mine, the melodies and choruses are also mine, I have basically taken the bassline and keyboards from that song and re-played them myself, I have added different drums, guitars and other sounds.

Just an extra query on this please. How do I actually credit the original writer on the song? The lyrics and melodies are my original composition and I have re-performed the instrumental part of an existing song which now forms the instrumental music to my song. Just to clarify: 1. I had an...

Hi, i'm putting out a 12" single which contains the main single, two remixes of it and another track. One of the remixes is using music which is not my original composition which I have reproduced, i.e. re-performed and not sampled, but I have my song over it. I have kept my vocal tracks but...

    Making WAV file from DAT

Hi again, my DAT recorder is a DTC-ZE700 and has Optical In and Out and Coaxial In. So do I needtwo cables or one? i.e. do I just go from the optical out of the DAT to hopefully an optical in on the Digi 001 or do I also have to connnect the Optical in of the DAT recorder to the out of the Digi?

    Making WAV file from DAT

Thanks. I'm not home at the moment so can't say which exactly, but I suspect it may be the SPDIF or optical, but will come back on that. In both cases, what do I plug into on the other side? i.e do I go into the computer somewhere or is it into the Digi 001?

    Making WAV file from DAT

Hi, I’m trying to make a .wav file from a song which is on DAT and wondering if I’m going about it the right way? I have ProTools LE and was thinking about running the audio (Land R) out from my DAT player into two separate track in ProTools (through Digi 001) an then recording the .wav file...

    Do it yourself mastering

Problem is that I have had many bad experiences with the so-called experts! I have always left the mastering to the pros , going to the extent of not even having any compression on my final mixes, just to give them some headroom to work with, but after my last project, an album, got mashed up, I...

    Do it yourself mastering

I'd just like to add that 've noticed that a lot of people refer to the 'experience' of the mastering engineer, but trust me, I have been in one or two studios that the guy has been barely out of his pampers and he introduces himself as the mastering engineer. They are not all that experienced...

    Do it yourself mastering

Thanks. The reason I am looking into this is that I always have a problem at the mastering stage. I go into the suite and am told the mixes sound great etc and then when I get back into the car or home with the finished stuff it just doesn't sound right and eventually after going back a few...

    Waldorf Rack Attack Help!

I'm really praying someone out there understands how to use it. The guys in the shop don't even get it, the manual is just so unhelpful and cryptic. There seems nowhere else to turn to. What I want to do is use one midi channel for a drum kit and use another midi channel for a polyphonic lead...

Do I need copyrights for this

Jeez, such a minefield. Thanks for the responses guys, you all generally confirmed my worst fears. I think I will just change the melody of the hook, not really worth getting done, plus I can't afford to pay anyone anything anyhow. It's for an album on which I already have 12 original tracks...

Do I need copyrights for this

I've just done this song where the hook borrows from the melody of the verse on someone's song. The words are entirely different, so is the melody of my song's verses. The similarity is that I have used the melody from that artiste's verse as my hook. Do I need copyright clearance for this, if...

Why Not Start Your own record company?

Damn it man. You are me! Except I got 2 more kids than you. Running a label is hard work. I'd say the hardest part is radio airplay, plus there is so much stuff out there, it's unbelievable and a lot of them are good too.
