I don't know if there's a Canadian version of Ebay. There probably is... And if you find it, let me know the link. (There's Ebay for a bunch of European countries, why not Canada?)
Mainly I stay on the look out for mics in various music/recording/bass forums. Sometimes there are international...
Here's the trick... Buy used from Canada. The US dollar is worth more than the Canadian dollar... for now
Also another +1 for Naiant. I've been using a matched pair of X-M/T's for a few weeks now and love them, regardless of the price.
So far I've been able to buy 2 SM57s, 1 beta57a, and an Apex 210 ribbon all for around $50 each. I don't know if these count because they're used though...
I can't help myself from picking up a good mic if it's cheap enough. Threads like this make my problem worse.
No, I completely understand what you're doing.
If I end up buying hardware to solve this, Behringer makes a monitor controller with a talk back mic built in for $50. I would just run lines from the firepod's cue outs to the monitor controller, and then to my headphone amp in my tracking room...
Is there a way I can use the S/PDIF in as a talkback channel?
Normally, I would just plug a mic into one of the 8 channels and call it done. Problem is I'm going to expirement with 8 mic drum recording soon, so I won't have the available channels.
This is what I ended up doing. And without any foam blocking up the holes yet, I'm getting an insignificant amount of bleed from the control room into the tracking room. I'm getting just as much bleed through the entire wall, and it's not much.
I'm setting up my control room, but I need to be able to run my snake through the wall along with some other cable for my headphone amp. There is only a single wall (2 layers of drywall) between my tracking room and the control room so this shouldn't be too complicated.
What do I need to get...
Is this something that unlocks when you pay for the software?
I've been trying Reaper out for a couple of weeks now, and I'm starting to really like how everything is laid out. My only complaint is I can't title my different tracks at all. The manual says your supposed to be able to double...
Well you've convinced me to use the bedroom as a control room. I also converted the storage room into an isolation booth. (poor man style)
Any tips on treating the control room? Or tips in how I should do the layout? Ideally my computer would be near the wall facing the large tracking room...
I set up an isolation booth for guitar amps when I'm recording drums (and they can't play to click tracks by themselves). The "booth" has 3 cement walls and a cement floor, so it's really echoey and boomy in the small empty room. I lined all the corners with suitcases stuffed with whatever I...
Would it be a better idea for me to use the spare bedroom as a control room? I recorded a guitar amp in the tracking room (bedroom #4) and it was so nice to be able to monitor the tracking session on my monitors instead of on headphones like when I tracked drums.
I would have to get an 8...
Do you have any power cables laying directly next to audio cable? What about your transformers, you moved them as far away from everything else as possible right?
If the cables must cross you want them to cross perpendicular to avoid hums.
Are you running everything on the same outlet?
Have...
I'm building up my home studio which is sharing space with my home theater... sorta. They aren't actually in the same room but they are only separated by half a wall. My question is how would you treat this room? Also is my layout going to work for recording?
Here's my the layout:
My...
I think getting a pcmcia firewire card with 2 ports will be my next course of action. I'll go through the logs and see what I can find, thanks for posting that information.
This makes a lot of sense. Both have their own power supplies, so I was assuming they didn't need to pass power at all. But if they are, I could see how dirty power coming from the drive could wreak havok. My issue with that is, when the Firepod is off shouldn't everything then work fine? In...
it seems to work reliable when I reverse the order, however it won't pass signal as you said. So I'm still stuck with only being able to use the hard drive with the Firepod on. It's not a huge deal, because I record directly to the drive and that's basically it (aside from back ups)
It would...
My computer is acting really weird when I turn off my Firepod. It hasn't always done this though.
I've had the Firepod for a little more than a week now (I think), and I keep it on a second power strip with my powered monitors. The reasoning is I can turn them all on/off with the flip of a...
